Why would you want to send you kids away for 2 months? Do you not love them?

Camp country lad in Monterrey TN was great all the years I went. There’s a sister girls camp called camp Monterrey.
They offer 1 week up to 1-2 months if you want. I went when they only did 1 month options.
It’s a bit more rustic compared to the NC or ideals ones: no ac, sleep in real log cabins, no motorboats only canoes or sailboats.
The boys camp has minimal rules outside of be kind, stay out of trouble, etc because “boys need to be boys”, they make you go to swimming as well since everyone needs to swim well. If your son wants to ride horses all summer he can do that, fish, canoe, make stuff out of clay, etc.
Campouts on Monday nights, Christian church on Sundays, field trips to the flea market, Cumberland caverns caves, tubing in the obey river, etc.
It was awesome and I’m forever thankful to my parents. I plan to send my kids there as well.
Also no electronics allowed at least when I was there.

4 to 7 seems way too young to entrust to strangers.
Mine went to yosemite at that age but it was with same staff as our church school. .

quote:I worked there a couple summers when I was younger. It's a nice camp. Kids get to do all type of activities at the camp and all around the surrounding areas. Overnights, hiking, and rock climbing trips in Pisgah. White water rafting on the nantahala. Canoeing trips. Etc.
Camp Highlander in NC
The people who owned up up until a couple years ago were from South Louisiana. A decent number of kids from the area go.

Summer camp is one of the best things we ever did for our kids.
My husband, son and a nephew went to Falling Creek in North Carolina. They have a great selection of activities, plenty of opportunities to go on overnights outside of camp and extra excursions they can sign up for. They have a system where they earn different levels based on their progression in activities and a WEMA (Wilderness Emergency Medical Aid) program that is unique to that camp. My son met kids from all over the US and quite a few from outside of the US. The family that started it has been in the camp business forever. FCC is about 50 years old but the sister camp, Greystone, is 100 years old. FCC tuition is fairly reasonable for a 4 week sleep away camp but usually is hard to get into.
We also visited and considered Chosatonga, Rockmont and Mondamin. I know the least about Mondamin because we didn’t get to take our tour but we have a family friend who has been involved in the western NC camp scene for many years and strongly recommended Mondamin and Falling Creek.
Rockmont is very picturesque and has a lot of activities but cons for us were some activities like blacksmithing and riflery had age restrictions and our son wouldn’t have been allowed to do them for a few years. They also grouped boys and it seemed like they would be somewhat isolated within those groups. Otherwise it seemed like a great camp and was definitely in consideration.
Our perception of Chosatonga was that it was a lot more rugged than the other camps. Things may have changed in the last few years but when we toured there wasn’t much happening in camp. Most everyone was out on overnights or longer trips. That appealed to another nephew who preferred Chosatonga to the other boy camps in the area. As someone else mentioned, it’s owned by Louisiana people and there was a lot of LSU gear displayed in the camp and on the kids’ bunks.
We didn’t visit Camp Highlander but it has (or used to have) fairly strong La ties. I’ve also heard good things about Camp Ozark. I think both of those are co-ed though.

You post this on July 3rd. School in Louisiana starts back for kids around August 6-10th. How are you going to get more than 4 weeks out of this? What I’m reading is that you want your kids gone until school is back in session.

I went to Camp Mountain Lake in 1979. Good times. I think Coach Moore owned the camp.
