Didn't you say you were poor and making 6 figs? It seems like you can have a good salary, but you will just end up spending more to live.

I visited a couple months back for an interview and really did not understand the hype. It was August and foggy, and mid 60s. The whole area felt cramped and the traffic was absolutely terrible. I suppose I'm used to smaller cities but not seeing trees on the street corners and only seeing dirty looking residential areas just wasn't my bag. I found The people in the city are very distant and the ones I made conversation with at bars just talked about how much further ahead their city was than all the others. Overall, the culture seemed unpersonable and pretentious. I've only spent a week there but there's no way in hell I could live there cramped up like a sardine.

When I left the Marines and finished my degree my first job was at Chevron's Richmond refinery and I was making damn good money for a first job; more than 100K with a cost of living bump and bonuses but there is really no where in the SV/Bay area you can live comfortably on less than 200K a year unless you are living in a slum like east Palo Alto or some neighborhood in Oakland. Wouldn't move back for anything.

Space to do what? I would want my kids to have opportunities to explore their interest and become well rounded. Not live in a bubble

The better choice to live anywhere in the SV/Bay area is Los Gatos, Saratoga, San Jose or somewhere around there; especially Los Gatos. It's worth it to commute anywhere and although everywhere around SF is expensive I would definitely live somewhere else and commute. Forget Milpitas though, the place stinks to high heaven.

If I stay here or purchase here it might off set the earnings. For now, I save more than I spend in preparation for what will most likely happen. But there are a number of options in California that we could afford if I continue saving now. In the meantime our family is small and we don't mind the small apartment in exchange for the work.

Juneau. Socially it's similar to Seattle. It has a mild climate, but rains a lot because it's in the middle of a temperate rain forest. According to this list, it's the 10th most expensive city in the US

LINK

It's the most expensive housing market in Alaska.

San Francisco is stupid inflated. Way overpriced and overrated. As is the entire state of California. By far the least American state in the Union, the people are rude, has a bunch of dirty illegals and Mooslems, taxes are high, and their far left socialist politics are sickening. Even the weather which used to be a positive is now a negative. Same exact shite everyday, weather never changes.

I would want them to be able to communicate and do these things IRL not on the internet. I would want them to be well rounded

There are actually more than one family living in a given rural area, or small town.

Depends on the individual. Not everyone was meant to live like rats stuffed in a vertically organized cage. A yard, an acre, some acreage. Just depends on the individual.

Yeah and you will see those same people every day except the once in a blue moon someone new moves in or someone visits.

Sorry but that is just not the ideal situation for someone to develop in to a well rounded person
