It's something to be experienced at least once in a lifetime, no doubt. And I think you have the way to do it. The lead-up parades/days are the show. Mardi Gras Day isn't what it used to be, and it's always been anticlimactic to me.
Plus, when you're from New Orleans/Southeast Louisiana, done it several times, and had a few less-than-enjoyable experiences, you can begin to loathe it.

The build up for me has already started...picked up the t-shirts that Lithium, stepson, and I will be throwing. I've rolled and packed 792 t-shirts and have given a few away to friends and family. This is sad for me this year as my LSU roommate who used to help me isn't here anymore to help me.
Going down this weekend to pick up additional throws and spend some time with my youngest daughter for her birthday weekend. That also means a Perlis stop and picking up a few king cakes to bring back.
Open house will be on the 31st then departure for NOLA on the 11th. There won't be a Grumpy Old Man Fest this year but I will have a Parkway po-boy and an early purple drank in old roommate's memory. Float load won't be the same either as he won't be here to sit in the truck and move it after we get everything out.
