Appears they never had a chance based on the circumstances; likely dying of smoke inhalation - I can’t even imagine

Agree.

Add in being unfamiliar with the layout of the boat probably did most people in if the above is true

100% spot on ..... I’ve traveled offshore on crew boats and have been on deep sea charters for several days. I ALWAYS pick a bunk by the nearest escape exit.

Water is likely in the mid 60s, survivable for a while with a flotation device, but without one a good swimmer might last two hours, poor to mediocre swimmers might drown instantly because of the shock.

Mid 60s water isn't that cold. I was swimming in it last weekend.

Whoa. When I go diving in water that’s in the 60s I’m wearing a 7mm wet suit, gloves and a hood and I still find it very cold. I can’t imagine being in it with nothing.

It is if you spend any time in it. Idiot.

Expected time between exhaustion or unconsciousness in 60-70 degree water is 2-7 hours, so no, people would not drown immediately from the shock of mid 60s water.

It definitely felt cold but once I was in it it was fine.

A few more photos and a diagram of the sleeping quarters...last night had 35 passengers and a single exit.

May not have an update since the boat sank.

Coast Guard spokesman Mark Barney told CBS News all of the people rescued were crew members. They were able to escape the fire because they were near the top of the vessel, Barney said.

These are charters that go out multiple times per day. I’ve seen the same boats in Ventura that take people out whale watching, ocean kayaks at the islands, or fishing tours.

The people in the boat were likely tourists, not drunks partying on a boat.

No, but someone else did and that's what I was responding to.

Right now lake temp in Holland Michigan is about 64 and I was just in it for a while body surfing. Felt great.

I took that tour as a field trip when I was in grade school. Would be very tragic if there was a group of students on that boat.

Those boats have large interior areas where people can sit and eat some food. Wouldn’t be surprised if people were stuck in there. Also, the ocean is very cold and may have been pretty rough.

I just went and read the TripAdvisor reviews of The Conception. Sounds like a good operation.
