I read an FBI study many years ago that rated home defense handguns. It concluded that a .357 had the highest % of single round stopping power of all the handguns in the study

One of the bissest shitstorms I’ve ever witnessed on here was when someone mentioned “stopping power” in a firearms thread. People lost their minds.

Everyone has bias of course. But its hard to argue that .357 packs a hell of a punch.
Those numbers indicate that .327 fed mag is not nearly equivalent.
Similar story of .32 vs .38 cal.
If he has the cash, should probably up-gun to the .357mag

If you are in fact talking about a 327 and not a 357, then I would pass. I know a LOT of people are drawn to oddball calibers, but unless it's a collector's item, I would rather a caliber I could get cheaper ammo in. But that's just me.
I'm not against ANY firearm someone wants to purchase. I don't even care why you want it. Guns are fun. Oddball guns probably funner at times. If you're into oddball calibers, I would learn reloading. It will save you a ton AND let you do even more oddball things.

I didnt even think 327 mag was an actual caliber. They've got to be expensive. Why wouldnt you just get a 357?

You are unlikely to be ever really be undergunned with .357 in a realistic defense situation, or .38spc hollowpoints for that matter.
Though to be fair to the OP, 32 H&R will also drop somebody. So 327 would likely be effective enough... I am guessing it will be hard to find or not cheap, however

To much for more me at my age. Really liked it some time ago. I have settled in to H&K 9mm these days. Got away from revolvers awhile ago.

I have a blue 4” Python I bought on 1975. My wife (no pics) uses it to qualify for her license because she has trouble working the action of automatics.
