Humans have self-ownership, ideally. As such, it is up to an individual's discretion what they wish to do their body, provided it does not infringe on another person's well-being or property. This discretion extends to everything from tattoos and piercings, to cheeseburgers and PCP.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but you say those things as if they are facts, when they are not facts

This is why I put the 'ideally' qualifier in there. Obviously, these kind of actions can be limited or punished, but I tend to think society works better if we all 'pretend' we have the right of self-ownership. And even better if we let people deal with the consequences of their decisions rather than subsidizing them.

It's not your body, as an American your body belongs to America. The government allows you to do certain things with it and doesn't allow others. Altering your perception of reality with marijuana is one of the latter.

Marijuana is poisoning the minds of our youth.

You're not thinking of the children here.

Absolutely.

Reduces crime by drastically reducing the black market and the crime that comes from drug deals gone bad.

Allows LEO resources to be focused on violent crimes, not possession/distribution cases, and drastically reduces the number of dangerous drug raids for both citizens and LEO.

Allows its use for medicinal purposes.

Allows patients to buy OTC and reduces government bureaucracy for medicinal carry patients.

Reduces the gateway status, as current buyers can get harder drugs through same supplier, but if purchased at store that's not possible.

Not a smoker, but one should never need permission on what they can or cannot put in their own body. How do you claim to have dominion over another person's body? If you screw up while on a drug, then there are 1000s of laws to prosecute you with, but the very act of putting something in your body is not a crime and never should be.

The biggest question for this qualifier is at what point does a parents' decisions create a criminal liability vis a vi their children's well-being. That's a tough one and I don't have a good answer.

Otherwise, if property or person are damaged after the ingestion of a substance, then they ought to be booked for the injurious action, not the act of taking a substance.
