I was thinking more along the line of rights infringed upon due to the industry.

Plus long term effects that could be unknown.

300 deaths from marijuana poisoning in 2014?

300 deaths is not believable to me but there has been a fairly large uptick in marijuana poisoning cases int that timeframe. Relative size is the kicker as almost all these cases are in children, most under 10 primarily through eating the marijuana as opposed to inhalation of smoke/vapor (either the kid got into mommy and daddy's stash or more likely, brownies or cookies not intended for them).

Not sure I've ever heard or a death directly caused by marijuana poisoning. The uptick has been at least partially tied to the availability of legal marijuana in places like Colorado where I think the increase in theses cases has been the highest.

The primary issue here is not the marijuana itself but the parents. And I'n not a big proponent of legalized marijuana but this is certainly not a reason to keep it illegal in and of itself.

Well, CBS disagrees with you, but they could easily be wrong, I guess.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/marijuana-poisoning-in-kids-rose-after-recreational-use-legalized-in-colorado/

But the CDC also mentions poisoning in their Marijuana health effects page indicating the risk is through edibles, not smoking.

And it is particularly a risk to dogs https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/03/20/marijuana-poisoning-risk-dogs/99415036/

So all of that is why I think it is a real thing, just not necessarily deadly.
