I have read that his last words were "Dile a mis hipopotamos que los amo". (Tell my hippos that I love them)

Yep, getting into politics is what ultimately brought him down. He really thought the other government officials would overlook him being a drug lord. Fatal mistake, they wanted him out of government and that led to his war with them. He paid efectivo to anyone who killed a cop. Bombings, assaulting government buildings, assassinating presidential candidates....and on and on.
Kind of related, I saw a Netflix trailer for "Griselda" about the Colombiana Griselda Blanco, the drug lord. The real Griselda was ugly but now she is played by Sofia Vergara, enough said.

His biggest legacy is a bunch of out of control wild hippos in Columbia….

Related to Griselda, if you get a chance watch Cocaine Cowboys. It goes in depth into the drug trade in Miami and S Florida back in the day. Guy they interviewed for much of the show speaks as calmly about people being murdered as he would if ordering a sandwich

Isn't Cocaine Cowboys 2 her story? Isn't she responsible for the crack epidemic in Oakland by controlling the gangs/distribution? A lot of the time from prison I think.

Feeding hippos is expensive.

I’d love a movie with a big movie star playing Pablo by and indie director.

Plot twist. After plastic surgery and 90 days on Ozempic, he is now in witness protection in Alabama.

I actually met the guy back in the late 1970's before anyone knew who or what he was. He came up to NYC with a producer who was doing a commercial for Banco Bogota. The company I worked for was one of the world's first computer animation houses and lots of people wanted to see it in action including Pablo Escobar.
He invited some of the crew to come visit him at one of his banana plantations, but despite his charm he made everyone a little nervous.
This was the system! My station was the second from the right which was the switcher for layering.

At his peak, he spent $1000 a day for rubber bands to bind the money he made.

Interesting story for sure.
Man, you would really have some stories to tell if you had visited his place.
I feel you would have been safe,as long as you weren't a drug competitor. Just a little nervous, that's all, lol.

With all the global corruption, it’s amazing to think he’s the one who was targeted.
Pablo probably would have been left alone, but blowing up a commercial airplane with a bunch of innocent men, women, and kids is more than society will take. Same with blowing up cars and buildings in Columbia. He would have been better off just sending hit men to kill who he wanted dead. Thugs killing thugs is not viewed the same as killing innocent civilians.

He said when they found communist guerillas near his plantations, they killed them. That was a little bit too rough company for a bunch of computer guys!
Nobody had any idea what he actually did other than drink crazy expensive scotch and smoke equally expensive cigars. Not the kind of person easy to forget and later seeing him in the newspapers over the years, it made sense.
Yeah, the Netflix Narcos was well done.
