That's a much broader brush you're trying to paint with now instead of "people go out to eat and spend too much on going out to eat"

That was the popular theme in the Ending Remote Work thread today.

So you admit, it’s poor money management which is one of the major contributors to debt, which is growing for millennials.

So if “Timmy” is carrying credit card debt, he shouldn’t be out for a dinner and glass of wine at all, let alone multiple glasses. If he thinks like you, he’s out having a nice dinner that’s putting him deeper into debt and he doesn’t even see it.

It’s a lot more common in this generation than you think.

Anyone who bought 2 years ago could sell at a very decent profit unless they are living in a shithole rural area.

Again, your original argument was that people are in debt because they spend too much money on going out to eat. Now you're just saying them going out to eat while having debt is bad.

Do you see how you're shifting goal posts yet?

Damn, you backed all the way up to this little nugget of no shite? That is basically the catch-all at the end of the list of actual specific reasons.

I also love how millenials are perpetually lil' Timmy's and Jimmy's. Timothy and James are now 38 and 40, and aside from the mortgage and minivan payments, their biggest source of debt is either education or that home depot credit line they opened for the free interest on that sweet new washer, dryer, and fridge, plus the in-house financing offered by the AC company that just replaced their old upstairs unit in the suburban McMansion him and Sally live in with little Braxtyn and Olivia.

Or are all millenials still 24 and balling out in the bar 4 nights a week on a barista wage?

126k in student loans?!? How? Unless you are going to med school, I don’t see how you would need to take that much out. Stop going to fricking expensive schools. Damn

19 pages late. - cost of attendance for LSU in state is like 100k for 4 years now. Tack on the 5th senior and ouch.

You used to be able to work in college and pay your tuition or pay your rent etc etc. Ain't no way you're holding an part time job these days and affording those things now.

It's complex and I can think of a multitude of issues that's gotten us to this state...govt guaranteed loans, the push that everyone should go to college including the Starbucks barista, on the flip side I see a college degrees being required for entry level positions, employers complaining there are no qualified candidates(does anyone do on the job training anymore), inflation pressures, etc etc.

While you can certainly attribute some things to the millennial culture..it certainly isn't the sole cause.

I type all this while I pay my $3k month on my 240k student loan balance.

Man I know this feeling.. I have a bunch too.. not quite as much but still a lot .

My chiropractor was joking with me the other day about his and he said “ yeah I’m paying for 2 houses and only living in 1”

I felt that in my soul

Uhm, what am I missing here? The 1/4 who can't afford kids are the same 1/4 that don't already have kids or want them?

Good grief -- I never said or suggested eating out was an exhaustive list of why millennials are falling into debt. It was merely a single example of what I see to be a larger problem for my generation. I provided both a low and high level explanation. Just because you aren't connecting the dots, doesn't mean goal posts are shifting.
