This is what a sounding looks like for that cartoon graphic and what's going on right now around Baton Rouge. You can see the big warm nose above 0 degrees.

Do you have Demco? We are still kicking so far. Luckily I found some firewood yesterday so we can always go that route if we lose it.

Snowing in Port Allen right now. It’s not significant by any means, but it’s floating around enough to see it.

shite that might not be good for later.

The high for Baton Rouge today is expected to be 29. It's a safe bet to take that "might not" out and exchange it for "is definitely not going to".

The rain is coming from the higher, warmer elevation and hitting the ground before it has a chance to freeze into snow or sleet. With the sub-freezing temperatures being relegated to so close to ground level and for so long a period (well into tomorrow), that means lots of ice accumulation on trees, bridges, fences, elevated roadways, grass, hedges, etc. We're in for about as memorable an ice event as South La has seen in probably at least 40-50 years.

thats bizarre. I went to bed in CenLa with a layer of ice over everything and woke up to (what looks like to my untrained southern eye) an inch or two of snow. Althgouh the snow on the roads are completely intact, I guess no-one is wanting to be the crash dummy.

Some will as limbs break under the strain of increasing ice. I was just outside and heard a transformer blow up around Flannery north of Old Hammond.

This is an odd weather day in Louisiana. Normally we're so far to the south that when daytime arrives we go above freezing. Today we're not only staying well below but we're still getting precipitation. The good thing is we should be done with the rain/sleet/snow within the hour.

The bad thing is that the ice is not going anywhere until tomorrow afternoon (giving people a false sense of security, sending them out driving) and we have some 10-14mph winds today to make it that much more annoying for Entergy, DEMCO, et al and their customers who lose power.

We had a storm roll through North La like that when I was a kid, it laid down a good inch of ice on Hwy 165 one night then snowed over it. The state closed the highway down so my friends and I spent the day sliding all over it and doing donuts with our 3-wheelers. #GoodTimes
