And most of these are in civilian areas and ingrained into areas with a strong civilian population they use as human shields against drone strikes and the like...going in "scorched Earth" will result in a massive amount of civilian casualties. This is part of their MO. They would have been drone striked to hell and back already if this wasn't part of their strategy.

How did that work out in the Vietnam war? All that resulted was a long costly war with the deaths of far too many Americans and veterans that we couldn't afford to take care of.

bullshite, the NVA/Viet Cong never, not one time won a battle against us. We could've annihilated them after the Tet Offensive but we let the media and politicians drive the war into the ground. We could've pushed em all the way to Russia if we wanted to.

Because I speak my mind and stick to it no matter what direction the board group think goes. I am open minded, but I will never follow the herd just because.

As far as Trump goes, nothing the man has said or done as President has made me stop and think, "That man is toxic"

I think Trump genuinely loves this country and wants to make it great as opposed to the previous idiot that wanted to destroy everything it stands for.

Not true. If you are willing to go to war, then you need to get straight to total war. The fact that they are so spread out means putting lots of boots on the ground, but for lack of a better word, you must be willing to exterminate

but we've never really fought a proper war in the middle east.
well we did twice against iraq. the problem is we created these massive power vacuums without any competent plan on how to rebuild these countries. because we tried to rebuild them in our image like western germany, south korea, and japan and that just doesnt work in the middle east.

we cant fight a proper war now, so the best thing to do will be to work with the countries in the region and give them the tools to fight back against these types of groups

Is it?

Reading through this thread for updates and having to sift through political BS, distasteful jokes, and how to pronounce the word "foyer" is tiresome.

That doesn't matter.

They have defined boundaries with cities, currency, government, strongholds, bases, incomes.

They. Are. A..country. Just because we don't call it a country by name (thus giving them legitimacy) doesn't mean it isn't what they are.

Like I said, I don't have a solve all answer. It's way more complex today than in wwii. But to act like they are some rouge group with no chain of command or isn't structurally sound is being willfully ignorant.

we've tried this aggressive war on terror and it didn't work.

How can one definitively say this? It certainly marginalized al Qaeda and sent them reeling.

That obviously didn't entirely eradicate Wahabbism, or prevent the radicalization of Muslims in western countries, but there were certainly some positives in taking on the al Qaeda network head-on.

Not the worst strategy, however....

Pretty sure the ISIS school textbooks come from Saudi Arabia. And I think at least one of the 9/11 hijackers was from Saudi Arabia.

Dresden, Tokyo, Berlin, etc say hi.

Total war or no war. That should be the options. You go in to kill every man woman and child or you don't go in at all.
