Because they happen so often. Same thing in Chicago. If something like this happened in Denver it would be a really big deal and make national news.

Plenty of truth I suppose. There is, on average 3 threads per day that mention New Orleans as the best place to live in LA and how proud New Orleanians are of the city. This is what New Orleans is and the residents are proud of it.

I don't know anyone who lives in New Orleans that is proud of any shooting. You can't be this stupid.

So you assume those comments are coming from New Orleanians?

well they are the ones to jump up every time there is a shooting to either say (1) it's an isolated incident or (2) you shouldn't be there anyway, as if that makes NINE people getting shot OK. your papers bend over backwards to protect the shooters as well

it's not that y'all "support" this stuff, but every time this shite gets posted there are pro-nola people downplaying this very serious shite. i mean NINE people got shot. that's a major fricking deal

They should just you on top of a building overlooking Bourbon street and let you use your judgement.

Well, it is probably in response to all the Nola haters who revel in news like this and use it to make attacks on the city as a whole.

I'd imagine most people in Nola acknowledge this is a serious incident.

Have they released video footage of the incident and identified the perpetrator?

What is video surveillance going to do? Catch a criminal after the fact? There are numerous lined up to take his place and commit the next violent act.

And even if they are trying downplay the severity, that doesn't mean they are proud of it.
You can't seriously be defending that comment.

nobody has to "attack" nola

nola's population is doing well enough to attack nola's reputation

NINE people got shot last night. the fact that this isn't a major, national headline shows you just how fricked up nola is. this should lead national news for a few days, but it won't. why? b/c nola is in large part a shite hole. but you people act like non-nola people are "attacking" it. you're lucky this bullshite is so accepted that it isn't even a major news story

By your logic, let's not catch any criminals after the fact.

Go to
2:46:31 from last night and you can see the shooting.
Or at least the people running from it.

I still feel safe down there and a lone shooter isn't going to deter me.

You can't seriously be defending that comment.

when nola people start to take these incidents seriously (along with all of the other violence that plagues their city), then i will start believing they truly want to do something about it. as long as y'all treat it as part of your culture, then you deserve the criticism.

anytime i hear the "people should know better than to be there" line or the "shouldn't be out that late" line or the "this is just an isolated incident" line, your city digs itself further down in my eyes. those aren't defenses of the act, but they are borderline indirect support of the violence as a whole and they have no place in a discussion about the terrible violence of your city

and no, not every major city is as violent as nola, nor does every major city have as many "places you should know not to be" as nola. hell even cities with violence problems like los angeles or chicago have easily-identified areas. nola doesn't. that's not an argument, and that is a counter-productive argument in the face of a serious problem

I feel safe as well. I usually don't do bourbon anyway on principle. If I go downtown it's usually to Fulton Alley or Après Loungue. I usually stay in the uptown area if I go to bars
