$100K is gonna buy a Corvette that smokes a lot of exotics and has a beautiful interior.
The Z06 version should be right around that and should be significantly more potent. I am beginning to think (awaiting curb weight) the 7:18 times may be very conservative. With everything they have revealed assuming it isn't a huge pig it SHOULD be faster. If it is really in the 7:13 range I would no longer be disappointed.

I love it.
Except that steering wheel and weird center console.
Beautiful car, imo.

So how fricked is Toyota now with their Supra?
If I was considering a Supra, why on earth would I not just pay a few thousand more and get a legit ME NA V8 that looks like a real supercar and performs like one too?
I'd be shitting bricks if I was toyota.

I think you have two different audiences there.
You can always play the 'just a few thousand more' game

Not sure how much cross-shopping you get there, some certainly but my guess is potential Supra owners would have already been swayed by the C7 if bang for buck was their number one criteria.
I also think it is going to be hard to buy a C8 for less than 80k for quite a while I expect most launch cars to be heavily optioned and with stiff market adjustments.

Really? I think there will be a lot of cross shopping between those two.
And it will be a less than 10k price difference. If it was 15-20k I'd agree with you.

i think the same could be said about the supra though. The first few month will be very limited stock and high adjustments for the supra as well.
Also, the bang for buck consumer will probably not appreciate that Toyota intentionally left a lot on the table performance wise for the sake of the aftermarket tuning scene.
Haven't seen the any official times on the supra, but this c8 probably laps the ring over 20 seconds quicker. To me it would be difficult to pick the supra over this c8 if I'm looking primarily at price for performance.
Aside from the slight added practicality of a 2+2, I'm not seeing a compelling reason to pick the supra.

I think the guys you are talking about are few and far between.
Guys buying the Vette will want turn key park in the garage and stare at it.
A tuner will want the tuner car.
A tuner isn't looking at a vette and a 60 year old salesman isn't looking at a Supra.

If that happens then there is a healthy demand and no worries from Toyota at least short term. I haven't checked in on the Supra forums since the final drivetrain and production pictures came out so I don't know if the faithful left in droves or not. I just think the bang for buck buyers would have already been looking at the C7 so would naturally be swayed by the C8 if they are willing to pay the extra freight.
In the end we will find out but since the specs came out I have never thought the Supra was much of a winner unless or until they jack up the power in some special edition.

I get that, but they shouldn't have priced the supra at 51k for the base model.
Maybe I'm off, but I'd think the bulk of people that want a "tuner friendly" car are in the 35k+ market. Not the 50k+ market.

I think the c8 is a potential threat to a lot of brands, and a lot of cross shopping will occur in a year or two. Once the initial surge of morons willing to pay 15-30k above sticker on one.
How many Mustangs gt350/500, challenger srt/hellcat/demon, BMW/Toyota rebadge, and so on cost 60k plus? If the C8 performance numbers are legit then why would one buy one of the others when you can get a mid-engine borderline supercar for the same price? Brand loyalty only goes so far these days.
This is the obvious reason GM is doing away with the Camaro. They are eliminating competition from within there own line up. 60k for even a base model C8 is almost unbelievable. I for one would have thought with all the hype and build up the start off price would've been in the 80k range.

Id imagine adjusted for inflation they are cheaper than the originals.

I thibk they're about the same, adjusted for inflation, but remember that the supra's ride to fame as a jdm/tuner grail came way after the production run ended and you could scoop them up in the used market.

The mid-90s turbo 4th gen (A80) was $40k. I cross-shopped them with the E36 M3.

One unfortunate nugget from the C&D piece is dry weight of 3366 which pushes curb weight to ~3600.

Which would probably be the cross shopping now.
Maybe the Vette crosses with the 911, Merc GTS, NSX?
Just doesn't seem like Vette buyers cross shop with Euro cars that much. Not saying they won't buy Euro cars though.
