re: 2017 Ford Raptor to have 3.5l V-6 ecoboost only

Had an ecoboost before and the drop in power I had in mine at random times on the road was inexcusable. I'll never drive one again.
...like when you're off boost?
That's how turbos work. They're basically air compressors that run off exhaust gas. You have to have a certain pressure in the exhaust before the impellers will spin fast enough to give meaningful boost, so the engine has to rev a bit. Boost doesn't come off idle.

Lol I won't admit to being an automobile genius or anything, but I would totally lose power on the highway and almost caused several wrecks when I'd try to switch lanes.
It was some factory issue and Ford ultimately tried to fix it 4-5 times but it kept happening and I eventually found the truck I want with the 6.2L.

Yikes. That's sketch. Glad nothing bad happened.

Definitely
Doesn't matter though......I'll just have to pick-up a used Raptor down the line with the 6.2

Research says its condensation in the charge cooler than gets into the intake. Says it was more common in humid places, so it's no surprise McCaig was having his issue. No Bueno.

I guess people have went as far as they're gonna go with superchargers with smaller displacement?
I loved my old 91 Thunderbird Supercoupe; no lag.
The new Z06 had some heat soak issues early on, but they've cured that. No issues at all with the 5.0 supercharged V-8 that I own now.
I would assume that the twin turbos in the 3.5 are sequential, thus no lag, or at least very little.

Nope, twin equal-size BorgWarner K03 40mm turbos, one on either side of the engine.
12 PSI is peak boost so neither snail is working very hard, thus not very much lag.

Man, that new silver/grey color is NICE! The Raptor is truly the ultimate truck
Posted on 1/14/16 at 10:36 am to Them
So both deliver power simultaneously?
I guess "lag" is engineered out...

Henessey. Only ones around that were tried and true in 2011. Pretty much same package as on top gear us back in the day. Was looking at putting on a supercharger
I wish I would have waited for 2011 for the silver. Mine is black and stays dirty

Raptor owners are the epitome of try hards. Ugly arse truck

Boost is computer controlled as it is in all modern turbo motors. Left to its own devices to make boost mechanically this thing would be as peaky and laggy as any old-school turbo motor, with absolutely nothing below 2500 rpm and then 12 PSI all at once and a mad dash for 6000. They allow boost to come earlier and stay for longer, which is infinitely better for towing and everyday driving at the expense of a maniacal top end like an old-school 911 Turbo, etc.
Eta: if this motor was allowed to make boost mechanically it would theoretically keep adding boost until you ran out of revs, so it'd almost certainly be more powerful but way harder to drive in the real world.

I drive a lariat, but thanks

Shoot, I like 'em.
The only real negative was MPG and I bet that's way better with this engine.

Same. Got the 6.2 in mine as well.

Nah, it's still there. It's just not as slow/sudden of a change, but it's definitely there

I always hated that about turbo engines.
I want to drive one and see. I know it has to better than the old turbo motors.
