Like someone said earlier, there have been some significant, headline grabbing events, but on the whole 2016 isn't much different than other years.

Really? The whole nation went in to full spread panic mode this year. Between Hillary Clinton's lying bullshite and rigging the election, to Donald throwing a wrench into the press every time he opened his damn mouth, to Ramadan being a massive shitshow around the world. This is the most different year I can think of in 15 years.

2016 has been pretty damn depressing. Sure some good has happened but just talking to the average person I've gathered that most people did not have a good 2016.

Perception is reality for many people. Having access to more information via more channels than ever before =/= things are getting worse around you. It is important to be informed and you shouldn't ignore it, but you've got to balance that against the perception that things are getting worse when the reality is you're just more aware than ever before.
