Hard to believe the end of this week will mark the 1 year anniversary of that terrible, fog-of-war filled week. I'm here to find out if there are any updated stats on the flood, regarding damage costs and number of homes & businesses damaged or destroyed. Everything I can find is from immediately afterwards and I'm sure those numbers have changed since then.

Anyway, thoughts and prayers to those still recovering and thanks to anyone who can help provide updated numbers.

Thanks!

The diversion canal is still not under construction despite EBR and Livingston paying taxes dedicated for it.

Kind of sad that JBE doesn't even want to bother getting a ditch built.

That damn dam is an interesting point of concern. I have to believe that as close as my home came to flooding last August (I'm in extreme northeastern Ascension Parish), without that dam on the interstate I would've flooded due to the speed at which the water would have flowed southward. Am I incorrect in believing that? Maybe someone with more knowledge than myself can shed some light on that. Every time that interstate dam comes up on the news, I wonder if I would have flooded if it weren't there. It cursed many but it could've very well saved many as well.

Yeah, no chance of flooding there that I know of.

East side of town was the main part that was fricked last year, though Church at Old Scenic got it bad too.

I found out that white people actually caused the flood using the drainage system and water hoses.

Supposedly, only $3 million of the $1.6 BILLION that is available from the feds has been spent/distributed, due to the frickwads with the state.

By the time it floods badly again, we'll all probably be in the ground. Autonomous cars and trucks will be guided along that freeway at super high speeds by LIDAR mapping and we won't need barriers.

The problem with getting total loss amounts is that there are thousands of homes still not repaired, or that were bulldozed

Found out if there is a inland "L"ow on the map over the original LSU campus in Pineville, then there will be flooded land over the current LSU campus in Baton Rouge.

Maybe.

I could also see how the flood waters could have also dissipated as it fanned out across thousands and thousands of mostly undeveloped acres like it did in Spanish Lake. Depends on how fast it came up.

Make friends with JBE, and you can get a padded contract to setup massive FEMA trailers that don't fit in anyone's yard or to knock out drywall in flooded homes.

I can't believe they aren't spending a dime to try to mitigate future flooding with dredging, diversion canals, or retention lakes. That's a fricking tragedy.
