I have a 2013 and it's a piece of shite and I'm not getting any assistance from Ford. Timing chain rattle that I feel like plagues half of the ecoboost fleet. It's "supposedly" fixed in the new body style, but frankly I don't believe anything Ford has to say about it. Go with the V8 if you can,

I've seen people get almost 25mpg with the 3.5 ecoboost and I've also seen people who can't hit 20mpg. It all depends on how you drive it.

Yeah I don't really understand the whole MPG gripe. It's not as good as Ford led us to believe, but if you stay out of the turbos, you can get close to 20 all day. I'm getting about 16 with 35''s since I reset mine a couple weeks ago.

That would be ideal, but this deal is almost too good to pass up. It was a hail damage truck that has had supposedly most of the major damage repaired. Can't sell as new so its over 12K under sticker with 55 miles on it. FIL doesn't care if it has a few minor hail dents for the price they are asking.

Just tell him to keep an eye on the timing chain issue. Here's the noise it makes at cold start. It's anywhere from $3-4k to fix.

This is MY truck a couple weeks ago. Happens every morning I crank it for the first time

Got it. Hopefully they have gotten that figured out in the newer models. He'd a stickler with on time maintenance so hopefully that will help too.

i am looking for a 2011 f150 Platnium fully loaded with 5.0 and can't find one near $20K unless it has over 100K miles. Trying to get rid of my pos Sierra 1500 since the engine blew up.

It's just a 3 grand fix that ford won't say is a problem.

So is it 7 or 3?

It's got 375 HP and 470 ft lbs of torque. It does 0-60 in 6 damn seconds.

FWIW, I have the 2013 turbo 3.5 with 80k miles. No issues.

Papapogey has the same truck but is having some issues.

I have the 2014 with 60,000 with no issues.

Did you reset the sensor for bigger tires to fix your speedometer and odometer?

I have an '11 with 68K and no issues. The only thing I miss is the V-8 rumble.

A know a couple 12-13's with over 100k so far with no problems. My 16 has 10k and it's great. I tend to get a new truck every 3 years or so and reliability is not that much of a concern to me though. If i wanted to keep one long term I may be swayed to the 5.0. I had an 11 5.0 and the EB shits all over it on low end tq. Tq you can really feel when pulling away from a stop.

I had a 2013 that had the timing chain stretch around 74K miles. Not sure if they have fixed it in the recent models but I'll never own another one. They also don't get near the mileage they claim. I'm actually getting almost 2mpg better in my new 5.0 than I did with the eco turd

ETA:
quote:

2. Timing Chain Wear: Since the 3.5L EcoBoost is turbocharged, the oil is under extreme stress. If the driver pushes it past the recommended oil change interval, the first item to show the abuse is usually the timing chain. Worn-out oil can damage the chain, guides and tensioner. When the chain is worn and stretched, the PCM detects the changes in camshaft position and sets code P0016 for crankshaft/camshaft correlation. Check out TSB 14-0194 for more information.

That's bullshite because I always change my oil earlier than recommended. I reset the oil life to 90% and then change it before it hits 10%.

It's not fixed, had my wife's car in for services and they had a 17' with 3k miles that had already broke. These folks talking about getting 26mpg! Coming down the summit of Everest without touch the gas maybe.

2011 Ecoboost-110,000 miles. I have had a performance tune and 35 inch tires on it since 28,000 miles. No major problems here at all.

Is MPG what they state? No. Do I keep my foot in the throttle and turbos spooled up? Yep. Will it pull a boat better than my 2010 Sierra. No effing doubt.

No matter which motor you pick- there will always be naysayers from either side.

2013 with 92K and had the first problem show up last week, tire air pressure sensor went out and I haven't fixed it yet.

One set of front disc pads is all I have done since new and it gets 18 town/highway combined with the factory tires, 14.5 with my 35" mud grips.
