Water intoxication. IIRC it depletes/dilutes your body of all the minerals your organs need to function.

My cousin died during a frat event at LSU from drinking too much water.
not that unusual. too much water is toxic.

didn't this happen to a radio station promo where the person who 'won' drank so much water that it caused their body to go into shock or something like that? i know they died.

damn just looked it up. All for a fricking Wii.

quote:

A radio station promo where someone drank too much water refers to the tragic case of Jennifer Strange, who died from water intoxication after participating in a radio contest called "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" where contestants were challenged to drink as much water as possible without urinating to win a Nintendo Wii; this incident sparked controversy and legal issues for the radio station involved.

Key points about the incident:

Contest details:
The radio station "The End" (KDND) in Sacramento, California held a contest where participants had to drink large amounts of water without going to the bathroom.

Fatal outcome:
Jennifer Strange, a participant, drank a significant amount of water and died shortly after from water intoxication.

Legal repercussions:
The radio station faced lawsuits from Strange's family and received significant public scrutiny.

True. The black fraternities have always gotten away with heavy hazing when they have their pledges on line

they were brutal on pledges when I was at LSU, pretty sure local anesthesia wasn’t used prior to applying the branding iron, during their hell week the pledges would have to crawl everywhere on campus, hands and knees, with a brick in each hand chanting “omega, came and get your boy “ nonstop

Lots of questions about this needless and tragic night:

What was happening when he died?

I am assuming they were inside the BREC facility and not just outside hazing members. If so, who allowed access to the BREC recreation facility at 3am?

Is there video footage at the park?

What members have been arrested?

A greek death at LSU prompts expansive news coverage with these basic questions.

Criminal defense lawyers phones should be ringing off the hook from members and anyone remotely associated with this due to Gruver law place.

Standing in line? The journalist and editor deserve to be fired for putting that kind of nonsense in an article describing a hazing death.

They just reported what "a source familiar with the case said." Source was probably a cop or school official. They can only write what they know or sources tell them, which probably is not much at this early stage.

“Standing in line” is not information. They might as well have said that they died shortly after existing.

I can't imagine how his parents are feeling right now. There needs to be accountability.

Should they have it left it out of the article or made up something?

I had a good black friend that was a star ball player at Baylor. In fact he won the ncaa award for most rebounds in 1994. He had a 8 inch frat letter burnt into his arm with a coat hanger.

The scar was horrific and I'd never seen that at one of the white frats. I asked him about it and he said they would basically get alcohol poisoning and they would do the branding when they passed out. He didn't even wake up.
I lived next to a Deke pledge my freshman fall semester, and he came home one night with letters carved into his chest. I think Sigma Nu used to brand then too, but only actives and by choice.

Usually when no information is available about what happened in the crime, an article will just state that “no information is available at the moment.”

Not just college. I was in the Marines and while stationed in Okinawa a new Marine was taken out drinking by his platoon and everyone bought him drinks and he drown on his own vomit later that night/next morning.

The guys tried that with me and I told them I was from Louisiana and we start drinking at 12, this wasn’t new to me!
