They actually have some pretty amazing technology used there to tell them about the crimes happening. They have special listening posts that are set to pick up gunfire. Buddy worked a crime where these listening posts told them how many shots were fired where (how far from the listening post). The cops are pretty quick to the scene on a lot of these crimes

Baton Rouge has these too. They can triangulate the shots and locate the block that it's on.
NOLA has them too but most of theirs are broke. Seriously.
