My daughter turns 2 in less than a month. Couldn't imagine this. Those parents will never forgive themselves.

Sheriff Jason Ard says, ‘During our preliminary investigation, we learned that a handgun was on a counter in the home. It’s believed the child, using a stool, was able to grab the gun - which then fired a single shot. The child was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. We can not release the identity of the child at this time.’

Poor child never had a chance.

Not only that, but a handgun that was loaded with a round chambered with the safety off.

I have a kid and guns. I trust my daughter to not touch one but she doesn't have access to them anyway. That's just tragic.

You give people too much credit. There's a 50% chance they'll just get a tattoo with the poor kid's name and go about their life like it never happened. They need to do some hard jail time for this.

That's awful. That gun needed to be locked up. Who leaves a loaded gun on the counter when they have a 2 year old in the home.

Teach kids about guns early on.

Be a responsible gun owner and keep it put up and away.

Kids are resourceful and inquisitive. If they want to ask questions, let them. Don't let them discover the firearm on their own.

The worst part is that a child usually isn't strong enough to pull the trigger with their index finger, so they flip it around and pull with both thumbs. It's why so many kids with piece of shite parents end up shooting themselves instead of firing an errant round
