Two teens have been arrested in connection to the assault and robbery of a veteran Marine sergeant, D.C. police said.

Police said one 17-year-old male and one 17-year-old female were involved in the attack. The male was charged with aggravated assault and the female was charged with robbery.

Christopher Marquez, who served in the Marine Corps from 2003 to 2011, told police he was assaulted while eating at a McDonald's.
Marquez said he believes the February 12th attack was racially motivated. “The kids were asking me if I think that black lives mattered,” Marquez told USA Today. “I was ignoring them, just because I felt intimidated. I felt how they approached me, it was very hostile. I felt they were really trying to intimidate me and just trying to start a confrontation with me.”

Yeah, not sure I've ever known a Marine that wouldn't have bowed up on these two if challenged.

So what do you think happened here? Is there some conspiracy theory I haven't hear about yet?

Nor am I buying the story that he ignored them. If it's one thing Marines don't know how to do it's ignore a potential physical engagement.

frick if I know.

I don't know this particular Marine nor was I there, so anything I could say about it is speculation...just like everybody else on this board.

I'm just saying that I've known a lot of Marines over the years. Went thru Army Engineer school with several, actually had a Marine Gunny as an instructor. My Dad and two uncles were Marines. And in every case, these guy's threshold for putting up with bullshite was very low. Mainly because they know it doesn't have to be high.

Doesn't change anything. He still got attacked unprovoked and robbed.

Never said it changed anything, numb nuts. Just saying I'm having a hard time believing he was intimidated. Not denying any other part of the story.

It's the definition of a hate crime. But it won't be called that way

perhaps he is a thinking Marine. As in, thinking about how much shite he'd catch over a racial incident. So he took the high road and tried to avoid the confrontation but the innocent little, put-upon, discriminated-against, picked-on dindus couldn't resist reinforcing the stereotypes by beating and robbing him.

Most of these guys are going to be as courteous as possible until you push them over the line. They'll give you plenty of rope to hang yourself.

Pretty much what I assumed.
