Two people died Thursday after crashing their Jeep Grand Cherokee into a parked F/A-18 fighter jet.
The duo was on the run from California police when they drove through the front gate at Naval Air Station Lemoore. As far as police know, they hadn’t committed any crime. The two people had only been parked on the wrong side of the highway when police stopped to see if they were ok. Before the officer could speak to them, the vehicle pealed away in the direction of the Naval base.
Pursued by police helicopters, the Jeep continued its high-speed escape down the airstrip. The vehicle lost control and crashed into the rear end of the parked jet. Both passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Capt. Monty Ashliman said that the deceased were not military members.
“Regardless of procedures we have in place, something went wrong and we had a tragic accident,” Ashliman said. “We have got to figure out a way to prevent that from happening in the future.”
As for the fighter jet, it suffered damage to its rear horizontal stabilizer.

Proof just how lethal and effective the F/A-18 is.

BAN ALL F/A-18 HORNETS!

I've always considered the Hornet a badass aircraft.

Was it a white hornet or black hornet?
Need to know whether or not I should be outraged.
Tangerine will be here soon to blame the cops.

Typical Dodge drivers. They can't be trusted.

I guess the collision...
Took their breath away.

This is such garbage thinking. It's about how you fly them not the planes themselves. Do we even know for sure if it was an F/A-18??? Any time this happens the media just throws out the F/A-18 label.

I am kind of curious why they sought a high speed pursuit and no known crime was committed.

People typically do this whenever they have something illegal in the vehicle... duh

So the cops stopping for a vehicle on the side of the road to see if the people are OK is seeking out a high speed pursuit?

Many cops are power hungry dicks, however this wasn't one of those instances. Anyone who tries to blame this on the cops are tools.

real curious as to how the car(including the cop car,) got through the gate(SP's/?MP's, etc.,) right onto the flight line

It appears to me that they drove through the front gate at Naval Air Station Lemoore
