e: 19 people shot in NOLA since Friday (Posted on 5/26/14 at 11:58 pm to NawlinsTigah270)
I sleep great, don't need any help.

Hell. One year I didn't lock my apartment doors for a whole year. Didn't get raped, murdered, or robbed

the point is that New Orleans is the HIV and murder capital of the country. the locals have demolished a once great city. you can leave your doors open but get your head out of your arse

Tons of sensationalism and exaggeration in this thread. The crime is New Orleans is no different than any other major city. People are shot in L.A., Chicago, and New York every single day too. I've lived in New Orleans my entire life and have never experienced any crime, but I'm also not committing crimes. As long as you aren't dealing drugs, committing a crime, or hanging out in the wrong part of town, you'll be fine.

It could be worse though. Look at Baton Rouge. BR has almost as bad of crime as New Orleans with nothing fun or worthwhile to show for it.

Prove it. Let's see some sources to back up those claims.

The city is doing better than it ever has. How is it demolished? It's one of the fastest growing cities in the US right now, one of the best cities for jobs, and if you know anything about real estate you can see New Orleans is on fire. People are moving here in droves. No other city in the state has the same migration rates as New Orleans. I also could go on about how it's consistently one of the top 10 tourist destinations in the US as well. But please...tell me more about how the locals demolished the city.

Sucks though that a tourist was robbed and shot this morning. That's never good.

Of course that sucks. I'd hate for anyone to be robbed, but to act like it's some problem that is unique to New Orleans is simply disingenuous. The United States has a crime problem throughout the entire country. We're one of the most violent and crime ridden countries in the world. Notice that much of the crime in the US is contained to impoverished neighborhoods. This is the case in New Orleans as well.

Anyone who claims New Orleans isn't doing great right now is wrong though. Crime is a problem, sure, but it hasn't stopped the city from progressing and improving since Katrina.

Happens more regularly than the NOLA defenders would like to admit

It really is amazing what's going on in the city. I do hate the crime and the trash though.

You've already proved by your screen name that you are not a local and don't know dick about the city. Send me some candy bars please.

The crime can mostly be traced back to a specific group. It's not so much a problem of a city, but a problem of that groups social, family, and moral character.

I grew up in BR and lived in NOLA for 6 months. I don't know as much as you, or many other posters on the board, but I know a few things

yeah, i'll defend the city plenty but this is some bullshite. yeah, white/middle class people may not be murdered or shot at every day but there are more than plenty robberies, carjackings, muggings, assaults, etc. that happen to decent citizens.

That happens in nearly every city in the US. It's not unique to New Orleans. It's a problem throughout our country.

I wonder how the other big cities in the US compare to this? Is there a website or anything that has numbers for things like this?

uhh no, it doesn't happen in nearly every other city, and not nearly at the rates it does in NOLA or the other majority black big cities.

Unfortunately the tourist shot last night was so drunk, he doesnt even remember where the robbery / shooting occurred. It didnt happen outside his hotel.

Not sure the Memorial day weekend total but in Milwaukee there were 7 shot Sunday night into Monday morning and then 1 more reported on Monday. The latter being a 10 year old girl at a playground.
