I know the percentiles are pretty high but I have no real familiarity with the SAT so I have no frame of reference.

Good, pretty good, great or what?

You must be insecure. Like crippling insecure to seek validation for a mediocre accomplishment on the internet.

Sounds like the PSAT uses the old SAT scale.

You get 400 for spelling your name correctly. 1600 is a perfect score. 700 is the minimum for NCAA eligibility (equivalent to 17 on the ACT). National average is about 1000 (22 on the ACT)

1250 isn't quite enough for a Magnolia or Ivy school but is still good.

That's not good enough for a merit scholarship if that's what you are wondering.

Kids that get those get perfect scores or close to it.

If your kid has an idea where he/she wants to go, then the counselor at the school should have no problem with looking up other types of scholarships to apply for.

I received one from LSU and I was only 1 of 3 people that applied for it.

The percentiles will tell you a whole lot more than some random people on the internet. That will give you an objective, comparable frame of reference to show you how you did in comparison to others. Asking people to give a subjective description of "good" or "pretty good" will tell you nothing.

Complete this sentence:

Decent but not spectacular. Your little snowflake isn't getting into Harvard but could get a scholarship to Howard.

1260 isn't too bad, but the most important thing is that you now know your weaknesses.

You've got plenty of time to work on areas that need help. Did you have any issues with time? Any weaker areas? Now, you know.

Bust your arse a little bit. I can promise you that free money in college makes it all worth it.

(Is this like the honky version of an OG teaching the lil honkas da game?)

Well, apparently they've completely changed how the PSAT works in the last five years so that it's not very simple to explain the scoring anymore. Overview: You take the PSAT as a junior and if you score high enough relative to your state, you become a National Merit Semifinalist. They weed a few people out and the rest become National Merit Finalists. Some schools will give an extra thousand dollars for that, while some schools will give full rides full of luxury. Just about everyone applying to an Ivy League school will at least be a Semifinalist. The score you need is different for every state. About five years ago when I got it in Louisiana, I scored a 210, but my cousin in Texas scored ~220 and didn't get it (I don't know what those scores convert to now).

From what I gather, 1260 is high enough that the person can study and maybe qualify for National Merit (get a lot of money) next year, but not high enough to brag about on the internet. I didn't even do well as a sophomore, but that summer I got a big book of practice tests (known as the "Blue Book") and just ran through a few of them and my score went up about 40 points.

This website looks like it has a lot of info.

well kinda what i was getting at. Plenty of time to get the score up, only a sophomore. --1260m looked good but not great. on the other hand it was 96th percentile. So I dunno.

Its nothing special.
Being soph, doesnt matter.
Get the person a math tutor for next summer. Master math. Let there be no doubt.
Be sure they work on English grammar, vocabulary.
1200s are just ok.
Not smelling an elite school under 1400.
Part of it is reading skills.
Have them take the quickie course on speed reading next summer.
Perfect math score should be goal.
