All of the problems in the middle East go back to the fall of the Ottoman empire, which had held the Middle East peacefully since the fall of the Byzantine Empire.
If the Ottoman Empire hadn't fallen, almost all of the problems there go away.

Propaganda was not something WWI invented. But what it did do was take the role of Propaganda to a never before seen scale and importance. All sides used it, especially the British. They were masters at it.
Truth be told, propaganda (mostly British) played a huge role in getting the American public to first support the Allies and then for Congress to declare war.
