Paid around $90 the other day for my fiancé's 2015 Jetta...seems high but the change interval is 10,000 miles, so really only like $45/oil change.
I change the oil in my truck myself. 7 quarts 5w-20 Pennzoil Platinum synthetic plus filter for around $60.

I feel like that's pretty cheap for a foreign vehicle.
My mom has a Mercedes for whatever reason (she doesn't drive, like ever, seen her maybe drive it twice over two years) and my step-dad bitches every time they have to get an oil change. Says it's like several hundred bucks. Screw that man.

So I researched this question when my GM 5.3L started making noises that were eventually identified as "lifter slap". Basically portions of the valves/lifters were not being properly lubricated leading to metal on metal tapping noises.
A mechanic told me the tolerances in the motor are so tight that synthetic oil is actually able to reach areas conventional oil cannot reach. Which is why the manufacturer recommended it.
Sea Foam cleans the gunk out which can also cause issues with oil not reaching parts of the lifters.
Regular treatments of Sea Foam and moving to a lighter/thinner synthetic oil helped but did not cure the issue on my Yukon. I didn't make those changes until 250K miles which was probably too late. I should have started after 100K miles

Napa has full Synthetic Oils on sale for $2.99 a quart. Dexos approved and its made by Ashland Chemical (same as Valvoline).

Just because someone can afford the monthly payments doesn't mean they put any cash down and aren't $10K upside down.
Not saying OP is, but just because someone drives a certain vehicle, doesn't mean they can afford it lol.

Depends on if you think owing more than something is worth is being able to afford it.
You aren't wrong, but could they afford the loan if they had to sell it tomorrow?
