riptides are typically bad in that area, they seem to be having an unusually active season

I'm probably an above average swimmer, but I'd be pretty freaked out getting caught in one, even knowing what to do. I can't imagine being 10 yrs old in that situation. Just pure panic.

a couple of girls that used to work for me were on a family vacation down there a couple of years ago, a little kid got swept away, their dad went in to try and save her, both drowned, devastated two families

Unfortunately after this much time has passed they’ll probably never find her.

They never found this kid’s body from 2022. Currents out there can be relentlessly cruel, very sad situation for that little girl’s family

The currents are very strong which will make it much more difficult to find her. Prayers for the family.

I hate these stories, sorry I clicked on it.
I'm soft when it comes to dogs and children. The terror she must have felt ...

It is now for sure. Bulls are here breeding. Definitely net a good situation. Saw a huge one about 40' off the beach a few days ago. He was in a bait school early in the am.

Yeah man, we have 2 girls. They both can swim, but who knows how you are going to react in that situation even as an adult.

She wasn’t out of sight. What I read is they were out there when trouble happened. Neither were wearing life jackets and neither could swim. They had on life jackets in a boat video earlier. I hope they can recover her.

Man, that's terrible... Poor girl... I feel for her family, and idk what else there is to even say, other than I hope they get closure one way or the other... May God bless them all in their time of need.

I just read it once in many of the articles or a comment. But that they’d had on in boat. Thinking about it, life jackets aren’t common out there. Bc we aren’t in deep, I guess we don’t think about it. It does seem the rip tides have gotten worse over the years. But I’m unsure a rip tide was the cause of this incident. I just pray they find her.

I don’t know that this area would necessarily be riptides. There’s an actual legit current that flows out certain times of days from the bay to the ocean through the East Pass.

10 year old swept out to sea in Destin.
I felt this fear one year that I took my family down to Crystal Beach near Tampa. We were getting all of our shite set up on the beach and the kids were playing in the surf then afterwards we started to get settled with everyone and noticed that my youngest wasn't by us. My heart sank as we couldn't find him anywhere and the seas were a bit rough during spring break. I ran as fast as I could down the beach to find him but he was nowhere to be found.
We eventually found him but he was at least half a mile down the beach playing in the surf, I wanted to hug him so hard but also wanted to spank his arse for giving everyone a heart attack.

We were right in that area in April and hooked on a damn big shark. 3 guys took turns fighting it for a half hour before it broke off.
