You have to pay him in 2019, and give him an unrealistic extension for 2020 and then make a trade with NYG for their Center or an OT.

We can pick up another great WR next year (maybe not as good as Thomas, but still good enough for Drew to elevate statistically and work well in Payton’s offense).

This year, however, we can’t just replace Thomas. We are too late in the game to look at other options.
Kudos to MT13 and his people for holding the SAINTS organization hostage.

Please list all the NFL teams that have won the super bowl with the highest paid WR in the NFL. Thanks

Name a receiver that has done as well without Brees? I’m not saying MT shouldn’t get paid, I’m saying Brees makes decent receivers looks great and good receivers All Pro. Brees would figure it out without MT.

You can't trade that type of contract 1 year in. I think OBJ had a $20M signing bonus. If we give MT anything close to that we'd be looking at a $16M cap hit in 2020 when he won't even be on the team.

Also, we may actually have some solid depth at the center position w Easton & McCoy; plus they can both play guard

Why is this some reason to not pay him?

Old Brees would. Not 15-current Brees. He needs help now that he’s older. If you think otherwise then you’re in denial.

This just isn’t true anymore. It used to be but now he needs help. If the last four weeks of the season and the two playoff games didn’t prove that then well, you’re in denial

Taking this statement at face value is ignorant.

What were the situations with those teams? Did they have a Hall of Fame quarter back? Who was the coach?

You're not going to tell me that paying Thomas 18-20 million is going to just mysteriously take us out of the super bowl running.

I don't think it would be near that bad.
MT doesn't throw the passes to himself.

We really need to stop asking a qb in his 40s to elevate other players.

I mean, our receivers WOULD suck without MT.
That can't be argued.

Might be worse than 7-9. Our schedule is brutal and our other receivers are pretty bad.

We’re a long way from being without Thomas for the season

Precisely

If he got paid today, does it change a single thing this year? No.

Do you honestly think Brees is coming back next year??? He’s done after this year IMO

There’s only one highest paid WR and one Super Bowl winner every season. The chances that the WR would be on the SB team are small anyway, regardless of salary.

Repeat after me... correlation is not causation

if you're telling me he is directly responsible for 6 extra wins you are an idiot. Contracts are getting ridiculous. Freaking 20 million for any receiver is insane.

Thomas isnt that great. Not a top 10 receiver without Brees and Payton.
