Will someone break down for me why Vitt is even in the discussion for interim?

Dude is going to miss the first 6 weeks. So for those weeks we are going to have an interim to the interim? Why not just make Kromer interim HC for the season?

This reason is why I'm so frickin pissed that we didn't hire parcells.

He would provide continued stability for an entire offseason and season and basically be a clone of Sean Payton until the real thing gets back.

Joe Vitt must be in Sean and Mickey's good graces I would assume.

Who would you prefer? He's always been the assistant coach. Payton has always had him on staff and respects him a great deal. I trust Payton and the FO. Let Carmichael focus on offense until the first six weeks of the season and let spags focus on defense.

I want the unholy love child of John Gruden, Bill Cowhert, and Vince Lombardi's corpse.

Seriously though, just throw some guy in the HCing spot, he's basically a sacrificial lamb, and its not like he'll have to make agonizing decisions.

Exactly, I don't know who else on the staff you expect can do the job better.

So you'd rather some guy who the players couldn't give two shits about running the show than someone who the players know will be there when coach Payton comes back. Seems like it gives them an easy out for someone to blame when/if things go south.

Vitt is the number 2. He is in discussion because he's the number 2. He will be there through training camp and preseason (and he knows how coach wants camp and practices run), and they can appoint someone for the first six games to call time-outs and throw challenge flags, which is about all the in-game 'head coach' will do anyway...

someone who will be with the team throughout the entire season???

The Saints should refrain from having Vitt be the interim coach solely based on the fact that he is being suspended for 6 games. He can run the team prior to his suspension and when he returns. But, someone who hasn't been suspended should get the honor of being the Saint's head coach for this year. Vitt doesn't deserve that title.

Yes, because 9999 times out of 10,000 that's a meaningless title.

This is the 1 time it's not meaningless. I don't want that unqualified dude calling the shots on one of our last 3 or 4 seasons of Brees' title window being open.

which doesn't mean shite since he's out for more than 1/3 of the season. So then we'll be looking for the interim interim head coach for the first 6 games? its just retarded. roll with Kromer for the whole season instead of one guy who isn't the real HC for games 1-6 and then another who isn't the real HC for 7-16

that's fine. I don't see how the Saints can reward Vitt for his role in this Bounty gate by making him a head coach for a season. he has a share of the blame and shouldn't profit from it.

Technically for half a season. And i kind of agree with you. It should be someone not implemented at all in the bounties. If only to keep Goodell happy.
