Why was Carr Benched and should that deter other teams?

Serious Question.

Seems like we already have/had left overs line Red Rifle and Winton. Just thinking a 31yo QB that a team is letting walk isn't what we think and we may pay too much being desperate.

Nothing in his stats say is will be a game changer.

Green Bay is letting Rodgers go away, probably an internal issue with the new staff if I had to guess

He was terrible. And their season was over. It was worth seeing what Stidham could do at that point.

I’m glad we aren’t giving up a pick for him. I’m okay maybe offering him a 1 yr prove it deal bc he’s a nice guy. If not, he’s not worth it.

He’s been in the league a decade and has never won a playoff game. And we have people on this board thinking he can elevate a really shitty team and coach here and win playoff games?

Wasn’t Matthew Stafford the same , no playoff success, then change of scenery and wins Super Bowl??

If he got injured, the contract was fully guaranteed

This is the answer. I don't think Josh McDaniels knows what he's doing. He thinks he's a QB whisperer. He's going to draft an QB and then use their inexperience as an excuse to squeeze out another season or two as HC before he gets fired.

I don't look at his numbers and think, Geez, that's terrible. I think you guys need a dictionary because I don't think the word "terrible" is warranted. Statistically he was probably average to above average. "Terrible" would be bottom level QBs and he is not that.

Contract guarantees if injured

Team was eliminated so losing was the preferred option

Whispers that he and McDaniels weren't getting along

Maybe it was just one of the above. Maybe it was all 3. IDK

I don't think it's because they thought Stidham was some big upgrade

It’s not necessarily a stats thing. I watched the end of a lot of Raiders games. Situationally Carr was really bad

His completion percentage also went down like 7% this season. So the drop in stats, simply supports the eye test

Matt Stafford had an amazing arm and he went to a team with Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey and Von Miller. 1 don’t think we have 1 player that is half the caliber of any of those players.

Sean Mcveigh had also proven he could head coach in the NFL. Dennis Allen hasn’t.

Also, I’m sorry, Lions Stafford was at least 25% better than Raider’s Carr. I think they are in a different tier of talent. It’s a decent comp based on previous team success.

So in conclusion. Stafford > Carr, Mcveigh > Dennis Allen, Rams 2021 Supporting Cast > Saints 2023 Supporting Cast

And I haven’t even gotten into market size and the Rams being a nfl league office darling Vs The Saints being the league office’s red headed stepchild.

Tebow
Cutler
Carr
Brady

Two of those 3 had success without him and failed with him.

One is a top 3 QB in any era.

definitely coaching problem IMHO

No, you have realistic people on this board that realize we aren't going to tank, and carr is the best available option.

Carr basically just had a one year tryout that he failed. McDaniels is trying to implement the Patriots system. That system seems to value pre snap reads and ball accuracy most. Carr regressed some this year in terms of ball placement accuracy and decision making. Therefore Carr failed the tryout.

That doesn't necessarily mean Carr is terrible, but he may not worth a big money contract at this point. If I was a team it would give me pause. If I'm DA and know I have to win now then maybe I'm willing to give the guy I drafted into the league another chance. Carr has the ability but just didn't put it together from some reason this year.

It could also mean McDaniel is an idiot. Only one guy has been very successful in the Patriots offense and not to many guys like Tom Brady come along.

I think we saw the best Dalton that we will see and it's not enough. He missed quite a few open receivers and took some unnecessary sacks. To his credit he didn't turnover the ball very often.
Carr went through 6 different O.C.'s and coaches. At the least Carr should be a better transitional Q.B. and we can still draft someone next year. I don't think we have anybody better on our roster.

Knowing the Saints were rumored to be a Carr destination, I watched him in the flag-football pro bowl game, pretending he was a Saints' probowl alternate, and he summarily stunk up the joint.

Sure it's only flag football, but it was basically a common 7-on-7 practice, and he was throwing INTS & overthrowing Davante Adams (who he was supposed to have chemistry with) and other wide-open guys.

I've seen games where he has played well. But I've seen a lot of games where he just doesn't put the team on his shoulders and win it for them. He's definitely not a franchise guy.
