Should have fully embraced the tank without signing so many older players.
Yep. Constantly thinking “this is the season and we’re only a few pieces away so let’s make a push”, when in reality we were a long ways off and should have rebuilt after Brees.
Time to pay the piper.

The Saints have the worst GM in the league.

We knew about Rams Knee and should have let him walk> HUGE Bonehead Loomis Mistake. We would have gotten a draft pick and saved 60 mil

Loomis
Yep
He’s a genius with the cap

Because Loomis kept doubling down on Payton and Breeze being able to compete for a SB since 2017. Breeze could not throw the ball more than 20 yds without a long runway to wind up, but Loomis believed them.
Then Loomis kept doubling down on the cap to avoid facing what he knew was an eventual reality but did not want to pay the piper. The effect was a double whammy of the team not being able to bring in quality free agent players and then having to keep underperforming older players on the team because those players would cost too much to not keep on the roster.
It's literally the worst of the worst situation the team could be in. Loomis has been able to hide behind this farce for many years but he hit the bottom and it's the end of the road. The only genius move now is to essentially declare cap bankruptcy and suck worse for a couple years.
Trade off your decent talent now for 2026 draft picks so that you can get a little more future value for them than immediate value. Start the strategy of building up a bank of draft picks for 2026 and 2027. Use 2025 and 2026 season as a developmental years for players needing to redeem themselves or prove themselves to stay in the NFL.

Because Gayle and Mickey are stupid.

That's like asking a poor home owner "why you so poor you have 9 mortgages on your house".

Drew earned every penny and probably more. Front office overpaid several bad free agents during his years, and bad drafting. Spent alot of stupid money on free agent defensive players that were total busts. Jarius Byrd, Jason David, Kevin Kaesvihorn, Brandon browner, Kurt Coleman, nick fairly. CJ Spiller, Colby Fleener. All bad signings that cost a ton of money.
Did you have to bring up Fairley though? He would have been amazing for us aside from the fact that his heart was going to explode. Not exactly anyone’s fault, but I agree on the rest… although, didn’t Coleman Spiller and Kaesviharn come in on veteran minimum deals or close to it? All the others were major frick ups.

Really good breakdown. Thank you.

Nick fairley was actually a good signing until his heart issue. Even then I don't think it cost the saints much.
He shouldn't be on that list.
He was coming off a great yr. Signed 4 for 30 mil with 14 guaranteed. Didn't even get to play under that contract. He was released at the end of that yr after being on the nfi list all yr.

They went 49-15 and won the division Brees’ last four seasons, two of the four playoff losses were the Minnny miracle and the Ram no call
