I have to admit, I never got used to Buddy after Hap.
I never thought I'd get used to another combo in the booth besides Jimnarchie, but Hokie fills the bill.
Hokie provides a perspective only a fullback/running back/tight-end/H-back/center (am I leaving anything out?) can - especially being 100% Louisiana with the LSU and Saints connection.
"...nevrything else..."

Mid 50's here. I remember Hap would always close his shows with Golden Birthdays for someone in their 80's or 90's.
The dude knew his sports though, specially horse racing.
Jim Henderson tells the story that he had to be escorted into the studio by police when he replaced Hap. Only in NOLA!

Somebody posted that he died in '89, so I guess you'd have to be at least 30.
I never listened to Hap on the Point After, but I vaguely recall seeing him as a kid on TV sometimes when I was in NO or Biloxi (which got NO TV).

Actually, I never heard Buddy say anything like "I'm not Hap!"
While he was obviously annoyed, he seldom even corrected these callers, much less went postal on them for it.
I have heard him say "no its Buddy D" but 95% of the time he never corrected them because he got tired of dealing with it and people eventually using "Hap" on purpose to tick him off.

I still refer to idiots and morons as squirrels because of Buddy D.
I would bet he is trying to bribe God at this very moment. He bleed black and gold and you could feel it. He was a one of a kind, the saints Harry Carrie is a good way of putting it.

Mispronounced everyone's name
For instance. When Donte Stallworth played for the Saints, Buddy called him Donte Stallpepper, by mixing up his name with Daunte Cullpepper.

True and he also pushed hard for the Saints to get Ditka.
While part of me thinks that Buddy would be happy about the Saints, most of me feels like not having anything to gripe about kills what he became most famous for.

Buddy and Ditka did a radio broadcast from one of the MS casinos in the early 1990s. A friend told me Ditka was a heavy gambler. He flew in every week to do the broadcast and then played the tables.
Hap Glaudi and Buddy DiLiberto were TV guys for decades. I remember them well. They stayed, while the more articulate and made-for-TV cats like Jim Bergamo and Chris Myers moved on. They were old New Orleans (or, as Hap would say, "New Allyins"). The reason they were popular in radio after being put out to pasture by the TV execs is that each was already an institution.
The Harry Caray comparison is apt. Neither Hap nor Buddy could have worked as a broadcaster in another market. Walton & Johnson used to mock Buddy ("The Buddy D School of Broadcasting!").

Buddy D WAS New Orleans! I remember calling him one Sunday afternoon after a Saints win and asked where the studio was. He said, "Well Bubba, right next to the Superdome, why?" And I said, "I'm coming to get you Buddy, you're coming with me on the magic carpet to the Superbowl!" and he loved it! We had some good times and some good laughs but unfortunately the Saints never make it to the Superbowl until 5 years after he passed away. He also told me he would wear a dress if the Saints ever made it to the Superbowl, that where Abdul the tentmaker came from, Buddy was tto big for a dress, he would have to wear a tent. Thanks to Bobby Hebert for paying up on that bet!

Yep, pigs have flown, hell has frozen over, Bubba is back and the Saints are goin to the freakin Superbowl!! All hands on deck comin to the forefront from the getgo, gonna knock a snotbubble in the Colts!!!

Yeah, that dumbass Mike Detillier had basically convinced Buddy that the whacked out deal they struck to sign Ricky Williams was the most brilliant move in the history of the NFL. They were giddy as schoolgirls that day.

Well if you really are the Bubba, this one is for you. I remember Buddy D talking about the Magic Carpet going down in flames after the Eagles game in the 92/93 playoffs.

I stumbled across this.
Holy shite! Buddy D, Rhonda "Up All Night" Shear, and Vince "I'd rather kill my wife than get divorced again" Marinello.

EastBankTiger---thanks for your post! When I started reading this thread I got so pissed at these little smart asses on here, until I read one worth reading. I don't care what anyone says, I loved Buddy D and didn't always agree with him, but he was quite the character.
