Jazz Fest has been on its way down for about the past 5-7 years. It will get worse under Benson if she buys it.

I believe if she purchased the venue, she would have to give up horse breeding. I don't see how gaming regulators would let you participate if you own the track. I doubt that happens. It will just sit blighted like half the town.

While i am not sure of what this (apparent) final straw may be, I can tell you that Churchill has been receiving fines from the EPA for years. They are probably giving up on the situation. I can tell you that CHurchhill is notoriously cheap. A cash infusion is what that property has needed for some time now.
OP, is this something you made up? Or is this something that is being negotiated?

Its in today's nola.com. Owners of Churchill Downs have sent letter to La officials claiming that they are surrendering their licenses for the track and gambling in La due to state not giving them certain concessions (money).
Also - the track does not own Jazz Fest. The track leases the facility to JF. The nola.com article also claims that Ms. Benson has already expressed interest in purchasing the FG.

If you read the article, it states that there are zoning restrictions in place that pretty much limit the property to being a horse track.

The Fairgrounds have worked there for years… it makes money. Churchill Downs just wants more from the state.

No one gives a shite about horseracing anymore. Hell, I've been a degenerate gambler for 30+ years, and I don't give two shits about it.
Some big national firm will buy it, but likely only to keep the poker machines open.
