I honestly can't believe the Saints past on Dennard.

when commenting on the Jean Baptiste pick, Payton said they were looking for a bigger corner.

I won't lie though, I kind of thought they were moving up to get Dennard when they made the trade.

figured they would just draft a WR later on because it was a deep class.

That would have royally pissed me off.

In the first round, you draft starters.
We need a stud receiver next year.
Our corners next year are ok.

I think he could have come here and a legitimate chance to win a starting job.

Champ will be 36 when the season starts.

P-Rob hasn't ever been consistent and is coming off a knee injury.

White is okay but still has some questions with his game?

As previously posted, B-.

I love Cooks and think he'll be a helluva player in this system. He's exactly what this WR corps needed to give them more of a homerun threat.
However, I hate giving up a 3rd in one of the deepest drafts in the past 25 years. There were A LOT of good players available in the late 3rd.
Must trust the guys at the front office on this one.

I really like Jean-Batiste and his rangy ability. He still has a lot of work to do but has a lot of potential.

I'm not wild about the rest of the draft simply because I thought there were better options out there.

2011 was by far his most consistent and best year. That kind of production for him was #2 quality (and he was covering #1s often iirc).

If we compare the two, for the '14 season, we're more set at CB than WR. It would have been REALLY nice to trade next year's 1st and another pick (somehow keeping our 2nd) and picking up dennard. Then in the 2nd get SJB.

Next year's class is supposedly not as deep so getting dennard this year, a "top 20" player would have been great. We could have went into '15 with a monster secondary after giving dennard and SJB a year's time to get adjusted.

I just don't get when 3rd round picks became so invaluable.

people think we can pull jimmy grahams out the arse in the 3rd.

Fact is, most 3rd rounders are nothing more than average starters most of the time.

Look at who was free for us to draft at 91 (that would be reasonable):
Dri Archer - 97
Brandon Thomas - 100
Jaylen Watkins - 101
Bryan Stork - 105
Bruce Ellington - 106
Ka'Deem Carey - 117
Martavis Bryant - 118
Kevin Norwood - 123
De'Anthony Thomas - 124

our 4th was 126

Look at who was available from 27 and on. Looking at it now, it was a great pick. Cleveland went from 26 to 22 for a 3rd as well. We got a steal compared to that.

yeah, he had 7 interceptions from 2011-2012 too.

not the greatest for sure but he was making some plays.

2012 was rough for him. No pass rush to help out and he was getting little to no help from the safeties.

I was looking forward to seeing what he was going to do last year but he got hurt. I feel like he would have had a solid year. Our secondary and pass rush helped the Saints to finish #4 pass defense.

As of right now, I consider him a question mark as well. He's shown us highs and lows, but I do see him being able to come back and handling the #2 WR load.

He isn't good enough to cover the #1 WR most of the time, but I feel more comfortable knowing he can make plays when he's given enough help from our pass rush and a pair of better safeties than what we had just 2 years ago.

If we were a rebuilding team yes crucify Loomis for giving up a 3rd round draft pick cause at that point you need players.

When you are 1 or 2 pieces away from winning a Super Bowl you go out and get the player that you are pretty sure is going to help you get there.

Judge the players we have now, not hypothetical players we could have had.

I guess the Saints are happy with Tim Lelito at C? Or plan on signing Goodwin.

I remember when Dez Bryant torched him a few years ago. But that's what WR's with Bryant's abilities do...

but even after all of that. PRob made a break on the ball and forced an incompletion in overtime.

Saints got the ball back and went on to win the game.

it wasn't pretty getting there but whatever.

I don't see how anyone could give a grade higher than C. Saints Draft should have looked like the 49ers draft.

Robinson was a solid #2 corner before the injury. I just hope he can come back from it - that was not a minor injury. Jean-Baptiste was a good choice, I just hope he can get better at tackling. Under Rob Ryan he will though, that's one thing he drills into those kids.

We could trade Brees to get all those extra picks like frisco had I quess. Other than the fact they had a crap load of picks do you want their players instead of ours also?

started with 12 picks. we started with 7.

Jimmie Ward - S - they needed a safety
Carlos Hyde - RB - Gore is going downhill...soon (we've been saying that)
Marcus Martin - C - no goodwin, needed a center
Chris Borland - LB - bowman might be out for a while
Brandon Thomas - G - depth and i believe their guards are getting up there. Possibly center as well (compensatory)
Bruce Ellington - WR - needed a WR (4th round)
Dontae Johnson - CB - more competition
Aaron Lynch - DE - smith isn't getting younger
Keith Reaser - CB - more competition
Kenneth Acker - CB - more competition
Kaleb Ramsey - DT - more competition
Trey Millard - FB - possible contributor

We needed help at WR, C, CB, and ILB.

We addressed two big needs in the first 2 rounds. Gave up a 3rd rounder that would have gotten us Bryan Stork who may or may not pan out at center. ILB is a 'for the future' type of pick and we took a late round flyer.

It'd be nice to have 5 picks in the 1st 3 rounds as well, but we only had 3, one of which was traded to get arguably the biggest speedster/playmaker in the draft.

Every base we needed was covered minus Center. If they're confident in Lelito and Goodwin (if he is re-signed) than so be it.

I should have put imo, but I thought that was understood. I could be dead wrong, Cooks could be a huge bust, and everyone picked from 21 on will be great.

Just going by what I see/feel.

The other point to that was the positions that were left with first round grades. I only saw an impact LB, impact WR, or a center and no centers had first round grades. Outside chance a corner could have beat out Bailey this year.

The impact LBs with 1st round grades were gone(actual LBs not pass rushers), a center would have been a reach, the corners I believe had even a small shot were gone, and I think Cooks will be a far better receiver than almost every receiver taken after him.

So just an opinion. You can disagree.

I actually liked Lee a lot, but given the role we're giving cooks I think he's obviously the better fit.
