It's well worth signing Jimmy and paying him 2-3 mil more this year, because with the bonus it will give us more cap space for this year so we can resign Streif and possibly Jon Goodwin. It would be nice to have as many holes filled as possible going into the draft.

Rumor has it falcons taking him.

He shouldn't get a penny over the tag price and I'd take a trade for him in a heartbeat. Sure up the oline, trade graham, get another solid tight end opposite Watson. Championship

At best a long term deal saves us $2m at most but more likely only about $1m. Sure it helps a tiny bit this year but the smart move would actually be to let him ride out the tag unless he caves in and takes less.

Actually, it could be more like $3 million savings.

Long term is stupid. He's tagged this year then he'll be 30 negotiating his contract. Trade him. He doesn't want to be here, he doesn't want to be tagged, he's calling out the front office publicly, he's always running his mouth on the field...

He's going to be miserable here and I'd bet it shows on the field.

What are you talking about being 30?

Because I'm not gungho about over paying the shite out of Graham? The front office is open to him leaving. Hence the nonexclusive tag. I've said before he worth the tag amount. I can understand going within a million over. Anything else and he's not worth it. Especially in light of what we can get for him.

Sorry I meant 29. He'll be 28 this year. He plays under the tag and he'll be 29 trying to negotiate next year and the chances of him repeating the season he had is slim. Especially if we fix the oline and add another legit target for brees. Brees will go back to spreading the ball and Grahams worth will go down. And you can be damn sure Graham, his agent, and Loomis all know this

ONLY if his signing bonus is much lower than expected.

Assuming a $1m base in the first year, if he gets something like 5 years $50m w/$20m signing bonus that's $4m per year.

So his first year hit would be $5m in that scenario($2m less than the tag). And then his contract would have to be heavily back loaded.

So unless his signing bonus is even lower, it'll likely save us $2m at best. Hell even at $3m savings it still isn't worth it long term.

Well...he turns 28 on November 24th. So he will actually still be 28 when he is negotiating next year. Are we just rounding up to make him look worse?

Also, that whole Jimmy played bball thing is actually kind of relevant when talking about his age. Considering he only played one year of College football he has a little less wear and tear on his body than a normal 28 year old football player.

No we're not rounding up he will be 28 during the 2014 season and 29 during the 2015 season.

Woah buddy, I'm just saying if you're going to come in and tear down the walls at least get it right.

I bet this all works and this is another remember that time everyone was fighting over Jimmy and the board hated eachother?
