We have a shite load of unknown talent at linebacker.

I hope Vaccaro pans out, but Jones should have been at 15 or a trade back.

No one wanted to trade up. Jones has too many question marks to justify taking at 15 when there are talented pass rushers that can be picked later in the draft.

Safety was a position of need and we got the best one on our board. I like Vacarro because he was the best cover safety in the draft that was weak with first round talent. I think trying to discredit the pick without the ability to judge the draft as a whole is short-sighted.

Harper to LB.

Is it time to resurrect that thread again?

What are the odds that we aren't done drafting safeties?.... Chew on that.

I didn't discredit the pick. They got their guy. Hooray. He is my favorite draft pick this year. Why? Because he is a Saint. I will defend the pick, until I'm blue in the face, to non-Saints fans. However, I, emphasis on I, would have rather them choose Jones at 15.

I really? We have enough? What's that saying again? Oh yeah, "you can never have too many pass rushers."

fair enough. I definitely understand your concerns.

but I've personally seen enough from Junior and Tez to know they're gonna be good pass rushers in the 34.

Victor Butler is gonna turn some heads immediately! and you can write that down, take a picture, I don't give a frick!

I like your optimism. What did you see from Tez (I actually think Junior will be ok) that makes you say this? I have ZERO confidence in Tez being anything more than a situational guy, at best.

Because the Saints passed on JJ does not mean they are done at LB in the draft. It just means they didn't have Jones graded out (after a shite ton of research) as high as Vacarro.

Not complicated.

that means jones must fricking suck, because a pass rusher is a lot more valuable than a safety. an average pass rusher is worth more than a good safety

you can't just expect to find an impact player at one of the most valuable positions later in the draft. sure you can luck into it, but that's rare. elite pass rushers get drafted highly in the vast majority of cases

safeties are one of the least valuable picks on a football team and should pretty much never be drafted in the 1st round

not really, there's a lot of OLB's in a 3-4 in the league that don't get drafted very high.

Thats fine. But name the last 1st round pick in the Payton era that ended up being a good pick. Fact is their Defensive talent evaluation isn't on par with the rest of the league. They have a problem. They have spent countless hours on evaluations and 1st round picks in 4 of the last 6 drafts. All for a DT that isn't on the team, a S that can't cover or tackle, and CB with no ball skills and a DE that looks like he may prove me wrong. Sorry, but my lack of confidence in the pick is without merit.

Jarvis has a huge medical flag and he looks like he's going to be a fat frick in about a day and a half. His conditioning appears to be lacking and he's slower than fricking Roman Harper. He's a one dimensional pass rusher who got abused in the run game. I'm so sick and fricking tired of hearing about Jarvis Pussy Fat Jones.

You're dumb if you think pass rushers aren't still out there and all the OLB's in 3-4's in the league that are good were once top 15 draft picks.

this was true 10+ years ago when the majority of teams ran the 4-3 and rush LBs were college DE/LB tweeners and had amazing value later

sure there are stories like james harrison, but look at your top pass rushers: they're picked early

demarcus ware
jj watt
julius peppers
aldon smith
von miller
clay matthews
chris long
anthony spencer
JPP

etc etc

well if he was such a bad prospect, why did the best drafting franchise pick him 2 spots laters?

have the steelers gone insane?

I was about to point you to JJ Watt, Aldon Smith, and Von Miller all who went in the first round.

That's what wrong with this team, we apparently don't value pass rushing at all. Oh yeah, well just luck up and find the steal of the draft. That's what you do for safeties, not your pass rushers.
