It’s just too subjective to be handing out 40 yards cuz “you think” something happened. I say a fair compromise would be spot foul for 15 yards or less and then for anything 15-30 yards, you give 15. And then half for more than that. So something that’s 40 yards, give em 20. You can’t keep rewarding bad calls with 40-50 yards of penalties.

Agreed. Should adapt the college rule.

Didn't the Seahawks frick this up for everyone because their defense would hold on every play because "the refs can't call them all or the game will be 4.5 hours long"?

Nah but they should be two versions…. Kind of like flagrant and non-flagrant.

Flagrant is a spot foul. Non-flagrant is spot foul up to 15 yards then only 15 yards.

Rules are not the solution when "points of emphasis" are given to the refs pregame to make the games exciting with predetermined winners.

Every defensive penalty that has an offensive equivalent should have a difference in yardage. PI has been the most unbalanced of them all

Yeah, no penalty should equate to automatic first down and the lengthiest penalty yardage should be 15, only on pass interference exceeding 15 yards.

So if they make it 15 yds, refs will just call back to back PI.. Thats 30 free yards.

PI isnt subjective at all. It either is or isnt. No in between but the NFL has made every rule subjective. That how they control the game

That still leaves the penalty up to their discretion. Should be 15yds every time

That won't happen because it fits in with the plan.

It should be a spot foul for egregious PI

The NFL loves the current spot of foul penalty because it allows them to dictate the results of games they want to control.

and before anyone calls that a “conspiracy”, just go look up the countless examples of the NFL rigging games for certain big market/popular teams. They have a long history of doing it.

Every team gets burned by this rule. I’ve never understood why it’s a spot foul. I guess the NFL the people think it giveth and taketh away.

If it wasn’t a spot foul, db's would maul receivers. I don’t like the rule, but I see the need.

They could do that, and have a spot foul for a flagrant interference, which they could review like they do targeting in college.
If there really is interference, the offended team deserves a spot foul. But it’s so hard to determine and the harm caused by bad call so great, that spot foul is probably the best answer
