I don’t know why people don’t think this is great news. Not only for depth if something happens, but we now have a guy in house who’s got franchise QB talent and has shown a lot of ability to be a good starter. We now have a full year to work with him, improve him, evaluate him, and the ability to possibly have him take over after Drew IF they think he’s the best option.

All for basically vet minimum.

A dumpster fire is still a dumpster fire no matter the price tag.

Nobody is debating his talent.

I personally think he’s an arse clown and could potentially screw up our locker room

If he comes in ready to work and learn, I’m all about it though and it’s an amazing deal

Year one in Arians system has been a disaster for many. Jameis is probably closer to averaging around 15 which seems on par with a gunslinger type.

I agree. The only thing that worries me if he does take over is one of his weakness is timing routes which the Saints have done an excellent job with Brees.

That said, I don't know how they can't fix that.

Winston is making less than the following QBs (avg/yr):

Colt McCoy
Nate Peterman
Josh McCown
RG3
Matt Barkley
Mike Glennon
Matt Schaub
Drew Lock
Chad Henne
Ryan Griffin
Blane Gabbert

He's barely making more than Tommy Stevens' salary

He has shown more maturity over the last week than at any point over his career. Taking potentially less money on a 1 year deal is also a big sign of growth. I am giving him a chance.

I think of the 80s, 90s, and early 00's when we had players leave and have success elsewhere (Hebert, Delhomme, Glover, etc.) Maybe this can be a chance for us to take a player from a division opponent and have him be successful.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the "Eat a W" game was Winston's rock bottom. It's also the game he picked that fight with Lattimore.

The real concern is that he just isn't a leader like Brees is. He's too weird.

Sean has said he would change up the offense to whoever is running it. Not overly concerned

I keep seeing people say this, but I don’t get it. What is this great offer he passed up? No team wanted him. Look around at the teams that could have used an upgrade at qb, and look at who those teams decided to roll with over Winston. The truth is the Saints just threw him a lifeline.

Teddy Bridgewater invented this career path of taking less money and studying under a great QB/coach combo to enhance his future value. It will be interesting to see if Jameis' investment in his future pays off similarly.

Even if what you are saying is 100% true (and I don't really think it is), many recent players would have said "frick that, I'm not signing for 95% less than I thought I was going to be making" and would have waited for an injury during training camp or the season and then signed for like $10 million per year (Jay Cutler to the Dolphins in 2017 is an example of this approach).

Colin Kaepernick is another pretty obvious example of choosing a different path than what Teddy and Jameis have chosen.

He’s on a one year deal for peanuts. If he got remotely close to “potentially screwing up our locker room” he’d be out the door in seconds.

We're 5 years in. He turned the ball over in college. He turns the ball over in the pros. At some point point, you are what you are. There is no fixing this POS.

So we're saying JW is Peyton Manning now? This is the argument you want to make?
