And Carolina and Dallas let us off the hook.

I thought we were a 6-11 team

We are clearly better than that

But I don’t know if we are good enough to make the playoffs

And I also don’t know how good it is for us long term if we go 9-8 or 8-9 and run it back/kick the cap grenade down the road yet again

Much like last year I think our Pythagorean win number is going to end up close to 11 or even 12.

On a down by down, series by series basis I think we’re easily a playoff caliber team. We should be 4-0. We had an over 85% expected win pct with less than two min left in both losses.

But maybe we just can’t win close games. Every analytics study ever says that close games are essentially a coin flip and are almost entirely luck, or at least over time you should go about .500 in close games. We’ve been way under .500 in close games under DA and even the late Payton era.

Maybe at this point it’s in our psyche and we are the exception. But if you go 1-7 in one possession games you aren’t going to make the playoffs, even if you’re playing like a pretty damn good team.

The common element in this timeframe is DA leading the D. His defense chokes and loses close games constantly.

He’s one of the best D coordinators in the league, some of you people need help

A 58 yarder to keep us from 3-1 is not who I thought we would be. We are better than I thought we would be after 4 weeks

You're saying the last two losses in which the defense allowed 0 offensive TDs and 15 or fewer offensive points are on the guy who runs the defense? That seems a little odd to me.

8-9 win team

If we were as good as the first two weeks indicated, we find a way to win the last two. I reckon it’ll be an up and down season. We don’t have the depth to be consistent for 17

We lost back-to-back games by 3 or less in which the D did not give up a TD and someone is trying to blame Allen's defense. I could understand if they blame him as the head coach but not because of defense.

The team is much better than most thought they would be and a lot of the sky screamers you see (not all) were quiet the first two weeks and only show up now.

But I am not sure how the injuries will impact the team going forward.

Every season, DA beats a team really bad. It's was early in season. Dallas game gave us hope. Now we back to reality.

We were leading at the end of both games and the D couldn’t hold it. It happens constantly to Allen. Minneapolis miracle. Rams NFCG, even with the shite call, included the D giving up a FG to tie it. He cannot keep leads.

That’s what makes it tough. I had made peace with a shitty season followed by a Dennis Allen defenestration… but those first two games threw my expectations out of whack and made me hope. Bastards.

As long as Dennis Allen is the Coach and Derek Carr is the QB results like today are standard. They will find a way to lose winnable games and maintain the deer in the headlights expression. Allen’s ceiling is 7-8 wins, expecting anything else is a waste of time.
