I wouldn't and those in the game don't use the word tank.

I prefer realignment.
Or if you like the tried and true "re-focus on those things that lead to a winning attitude".

Signing Mayfield would be a positive tank move.

Was Drew Brees a top 5 QB the first half of his career? How do you know Carr would not thrive in the right situation? So only 4-5 teams should consider competing for the Lombardi trophy each year?

I get your point, elite QB play makes all the difference, but so much of success in the NFL is "right place right time". Look at Mathew Stafford, Lions to Rams. I agree with you that there are only a handful of elite QB's in the league, but I also believe that after those top 5 or so guys, there are another 6-8 guys or so that can win you a Super Bowl. Carr was a top 10 guy at one time in many eyes.

Any of these vets would be a slight upgrade at a much higher price tag which in turn hamstrings the rest of the team. How are we supposed to sign any quality FA or keep any young guys if we’re paying so much to a mediocre QB that’s not the franchise guy long term?

The answer is you don’t. Get someone like Dalton or Jameis that are much easier on the cap as your stopgap. Then start drafting QBs until we find the guy, or maybe lightning strikes a real option in FA emerges like Drew. It’s none of the ones available this year though so why bother? I don’t think it’ll be him either, but I’d take a flier on Hendon Hooker if he’s there and see how it works.

Our window is closed and shut tight. We either bite the bullet and suck hard for a year or two to clear the books and get some youth with a chance to be relevant in 3-5 years with long term sustainability like we had before, or we’ll just wallow in 7-9 win mediocrity for the next decade and never truly have a chance. One of those options seems clearly better to me, even if both are painful.

"so what would you recommend Chief"

That's the question they can't answer just gives us takes like

This delusion that we are a mediocre QB away from contending for a Super Bowl might be the dumbest take I’ve heard from any of our fans.

So going by those takes: mahommes, hurts, burrow, Allen and Jackson shared the Superbowl this year.

If we can’t sign a top 5 elite QB then we just as soon run wildcat the whole game, right?
Relax champ…. We only won 1 Super Bowl with Payton and Brees over 15 years. We ain’t winning anything in 2023 with DA

What if tanking to get Caleb Williams actually is the correct answer

Y’all need to understand this team has too many pieces to effectively tank for a top pick. Even Taysom Hill or Dalton would win 7-8 games. The NFL is not set up to allow a team to purge all of its good players to tank anyway. Get over it

Okay, what do you expect the saints to do. They aren't going to tank, so beyond that idiotic solution what do expect?

Do you have a magic 8 ball to invite if Caleb Williams will be that elite?

Besides do you do that to guys like Cam Jordan. Tell him, “Sorry, we know you have given so much for this franchise, but we are going to screw around one of your last years to be competitive in the game of football and tank.”

I don’t care what we do, as long as we don’t end up with the guy from Univ Florida, he was god awful his whole career but has 1st round grade. Someone will regret that pick wherever he ends up.

You simply are not going to beat any of those teams on the biggest stage without quarterback play to match that. The NFL won't even want you in the game without it.
That's a bunch of BS, the NFL wants whoever's hot at that moment and P Mahomes has been it for a minute now. But Derek Carr is a topnotch QB that any team would be proud to have. The guy çan sling a football, I just don't know why it didn't work out with the Raiders. But I think had Gruden not got fired that Carr was on the way. I mean look at Philly's Hurt and what he's done this season. I didn't think that kid would ever become the QB that he is now, but I can honestly say I think he is a top tier QB now. So, yeah what you're saying has absolutely nothing to do with it.

You also need luck and the refs on your side. Isn't it a beautiful story that Mahomes was able to will his team to a win after nearly having his ankle amputated at halftime?

Getting Carr for the right deal, and staying healthy, and having a solid draft to reload at key positions, this team could win the NFC South this season, three picks next year in the first two rounds, could win the NFC South again. Realistically this team could go on another run winning the division for the next 5 seasons with Carr and staying healthy.

Folk
Flacco
Stafford

All won Super Bowls in the last 10 years and they are not QBs like mahommes.

Also manning and Brady have won Super Bowls the last 10 years and they are not burning up the field with their legs.

In fact only Wilson and mahommes have won in the last 10 years that are considered dual threat and can make plays or keep plays alive with their legs the others were pocket passers

We aren't going to get an elite quarterback this offseason. There isn't one available. A bridge QB like Baker isn't going to set us back. He shouldn't cost a lot or demand a long commitment. Carr could set us back if we go hard after him.

Tank for a proper young QB and don’t get stuck in 20 years of being mediocre (at best)
