We all see that this isn't going the way we thought with the penning RT position. So...?

Hey we are at 13 million over the cap, after seeing the (Penning Show) I see we are in deep trouble at RT. The saints also noted at Jordan Howard Fs isn't ready and their courting Justin Simmons, what's more important grabbing at very good top tier safety and add a mediocre RT that will be better than penning.. Or grab a very good RT.. swing penning to gaurd and start Jordan Howard at FS.. Tell me your opinion because something has to happen very soon..

I could see the saints signing simmons. Howden is more of a strong safety.
They have to do something at tackle

Are we over the cap right now?
According to Over The Cap we have almost 11 M in cap space for 2024. 2025 looks awful but that will change I suspect.

Penning will most likely get the start week 1 at RT. If he doesn't improve by week 5 he will be selling insurance at Liberty Mutual

The Saints, nor anyone else, has signed Simmons. Considering he was cut in March, the reason he has yet to sign is very simple. He's demanding more than what the league considers his market value. In March he had 6 months before the season started. He could afford to wait to see if a team wanted to meet his demand. Now there is less than a month before the season starts. If he wants to play this year he will (very likely) have to reduce his demand. The Saints worked him out and will consider signing him if his salary demand meets what the Saints feel he's worth. If not, move on. The Saints aren't a FS away from being a Super Bowl contender.
Penning is still on a "cheap" rookie deal and he has no trade value. He's not going anywhere. Worst case scenario for him is he sticks around as a backup. I'm sure the Saints are looking at potential RTs. But overpaying for one this year doesn't make a ton of sense. Again, the Saints likely aren't 1-2 players away from being a Super Bowl contender. Buying expensive FAs they couldn't afford on the credit card is how they got into this situation in the first place. (i.e. one of if not the oldest roster in the NFL) . They were pretty fiscally conservative this offseason. Don't change that now. Roll (mostly) with what you have and keep looking towards the future. That still may be enough to win an average to below-average division.

Perfectly stated. Is assume Simmons would like to play for a good team if he’s not going to get a decent payday.

Saints probably think Kubiak's system can scheme around Penning's ineffectiveness. Simmons could be a difference in winning the division.

They were foolish to not bring Cam Erving back. He actually played very well at RT for us last year.

Your exactly right. Erving played decent. Way better then what we likely see from Penning.
I don't understand why they didn't bring him back instead of all eggs going into the Penning basket.
They knew Ram was done long before it was announced. Why didn't they spend more time looking for a RT?
