I would prefer if he was not playing center because if he goes down we don't have a prime backup at LT/LG.

Based on last year...if the Armstead goes down, we probably slide Peat into LT & Kelemete would man LG. I assume Landon Turner is backup at RG, & Ramczyk is backup at RT. Who knows though...Ramczyk might be so good that he replaces Armstead at LT, or even Warford at RG. At least we have a lot of options in case of an injury.

We have plenty of depth at each position. I think backup RG is the biggest question mark though. I would think Landon Turner & Ramczyk would be the best bets as of right now. They might want to keep Peat & Kelemete on the left side, & keep Strief & Ramczyk on the right side.

LT - Armstead, Peat, Kelemete, Ramczyk
LG - Peat, Kelemete
OC - Unger, Kelemete, Jack Allen
RG - Warford, Landon Turner, Ramczyk
RT - Strief, Ramczyk

How old is Kevin Mawaii?

Honestly, I would do whatever it took to get Mangold. This line--and this team--has a chance too be to good to screw it up by letting an inexperienced guy man the 1 position that requires the most experience. I'm with St Aug--you can't count on a 300+'dude coming back early with a foot injury. Im only 200 lbs, but have had a lingering foot issue that still hurts like a motherfricker even after surgery.

And some of y'all act like 5 or 6 games is no big deal. It's a 3rd of the fricking season! In the NFL, that could be the difference between setting ourselves up,for a nice playoff run or going 7-9 again and getting ready for our Groundhog Day pick of 11/12 /13 again. You want to "ride with Alllen" for a 3rd of the season to save a measly $3 million or so? At the very worst, Mangold gets beat out and can help the youngsters along.

I don't understand why this surgery didn't take place in January. The injury was an issue during the season, why didn't our staff make this decision 3 or 4 months ago. I have serious concerns about our training staff.

if this is a lisfranc, I think surgery is typically a last resort

This is a blow, but it is not as bad as it could be. We have a lot of time to make a decision about what to do, and fortunately we are 7-deep at starter-quality OL (plus Turner, who could be something). If they think he could do it, they could slot Kelemete in there. If not we could always sign a vet like Mangold.

Knowing about this now rather than having it happen deep in training camp is to our advantage. Whoever replaces Unger will have time to gel with the rest of the OL in the spot.

I love the optimism but it is a pretty big deal. He's a 300 lb dude who lines up directly in front of our shorter qb and has to prevent other 300+ lb guys from pushing him into said short qb.....on a newly repaired foot. He's also a pro bowl caliber player. We've seen first hand what happened when we lack at center.

I agree. But imagine if this happened in late August. We would be catastrophically fricked. At least now we have time to make a plan and allow whoever the plan is to adjust to our offense & their teammates. It is not as bad as it could be.

Not saying it isn't a big deal, but he had the surgery Saturday, so in 5 months it's not so much newly repaired. At that point it should be healed if the surgery went well.

Bone, how much money will we have to spend after the Byrd cut(June 1st), & the rookie signings are factored in?

The recent article on Ingram/Kelce said we have around 7mil in cap space right now.

About $9-10 mil, but it should be carried forward to help resign Brees.

Can anyone confirm if it's Linsfranc or what the frick ever it is?

I don't want to press the panic button yet, but I do think it's cause for concern. At least bring in Mangold to compete for the spot. Not a fan of trading Ingram for Kelce either

It is newly repaired in regards to him returning to function. His job is literally to squat and then violently collide with another 300 lb man as they push each other. There is simply no substitute for the sheer amount of force that goes through his foot until he's doing it. Hot Carl is absolutely correct in that many people have pain for well over a year. We're not gonna get the same unger back for quite awhile if ever.

I assume the only way we spend some of it is to compensate for an injury. Wouldn't be surprised if it was used on Mangold or another position(if a starter gets injured). I could see us going after a CB if 1 of our top CB's(Breaux, Lattimore, or PJ Williams) gets hurt in training camp.

given the timetable, seems like a safe assumption. Good luck waiting on a SP confirmation though
