Right but with the signing bonus it would’ve been paid to him immediately (he’d rather have his money now). He had to deliberately agree to the option bonus because that wasn’t in his contract, whereas they include the right to convert signing bonus in all contracts without the need to go to the player
In essence, it means they’re opening the door for this to mean he’ll actually get traded

Yes Lattimore agreed to it. Yes, it seems to be a mutual opening of a trade by all parties doing this. Nick also talked about the actual paying of bonuses too, he basically said its a misconception of how and when receive signing bonuses "now" vs later. You'll have to listen to that part.

Yeah this move is being made because I think he is demanding a trade or has become such a cancer that we have to deal him.
I can't speak for Chad, but I think the point wasn't to lower dead cap money in the future. I even think he said we'd have to just bite the bullet on it. I think his point, and I may be wrong, was that restructuring to lower his current salary makes him more valuable in a trade as a team with lower cap space could make this trade and may be willing to pay a premium if they are contenders. By no means does this help the Saint cap wise, but it does generate an asset.

I listened to the. Newest underhill podcast. Sounds likely lattimore is traded before next season. Im fine with it. He and crew also seemed scared to trade Lat because he is our best player. I welcome it, dude is gonna be 28 before next season starts. Prob 1-2 more good years left at most. Get rid of him before the drop off the cliff happens

I found the clip on twitter discussing that it’s actually an option bonus and he won’t get paid until September basically. frick
Watched the first few minutes, but had to jump away because I need to walk into a meeting. Basically, it's an option bonus to pay him out in Sept. This allows the team to keep him on the roster until June 2nd (right before camp) with a cap hit of $14.6M (cap hit before restructure was $25.6M). Then, you trade him on June 2nd or later to drop his cap hit on 2024 to $13.4M and defer another $12-13M to 2025 (didn't listen long enough to see if he touched on the 2025 details)
Latt's new 2025 cap number is $31M, with Saints currently sitting at $26.6M over. So, it appears this would also save another $18M against the 2025 cap.

The option bonus means if traded, the new team pays those monies.
The same as his base salary, Chad.

You still here? Jesus. This has been an utter disaster of a thread for you. You had all these preconceived facts about what Latt and the Saints could and couldn't do all this time.

They typically just restructure once the player is traded to do this.
This is a way to kick the can onto 2025 because we can trade him after June 1 and split his dead cap up. You can designate a cut post-june 1 but you can't do that with a trade.
The net dead cap impact is 0.

You don't even understand what is going on to judge

Explain how this changes his dead cap situation

Mate you are not the cap savant you seem to think you are. It’s okay, even Ken Jennings had his weak categories on Jeopardy!

Hey Mate, you caught duke's a-hole comment and then idontyield's comment early? its like we try to lead the blind around this bitch and they only just retaliate their emotions back against you.
