Thanks I wasn’t sure of what the cap hit would be. If it doesn’t make sense it doesn’t make sense.

People are being dicks for some reason, but it really is gonna take some drastic changes to dig out of this situation.
To reply to some of the comments. It IS a good roster. In fact, I’d say it’s one of the better rosters in the NFL in terms of the number of really really good players. The problem is that in most key spots it is deficient. Oline and QB are awful. Coaching is the worst in the league. (I’m certain the coaching staff had no clue you can’t rough a rugby style kick earlier)
And this may not be tangible, but the energy and magic is gone. It’s been gone for a few years. If we don’t feel optimistic about this team’s chances, do you guys really think the players do?
I’m not saying trading Lattimore is the silver bullet. But big time changes need to be made. I doubt if Bill Belichik or Mike Tomlin came here they would have success until the same old same old was cut loose and a new overall roster took over.

How do we get under the 2024 cap?

Same things we have to do anyways

Restructure Latt's contract to save $15M+ in cap space? How do we do that if we trade him and take a massive cap hit instead?

Are you saying we can’t restructure before a trade with all parties in agreeement?

It’s not a terrible idea. I love him on the team, but there isn’t really any hope for winning here during his prime. I could see a team with a low first round pick making that trade to get them over the top.
If we took Branch in the 2nd it would have been the smart move. Still have Taylor and adebo to play outside and Brsnch the nickel.
He would bring back the most of any player on our team. And would help our cap.
Could see the Eagles trying to trade for him.

The cap acceleration ("dead money" as you know it) is for money already paid to Lattimore. Does this restructure come with a time machine?
Posted on 12/10/23 at 2:57 pm to SlowFlowPro
ARE YOU SAYING WE CAN’T, there’s no feasible mechanisms known to loomis and khai to make this work?

Can't, what?
Can we restructure his deal? Sure
Restructure then trade him? Sure
Can we lower the cap acceleration from signing bonuses already paid? Not without a June 1 designation

Chad, what do you think you'll accomplish (for the Saints) with this hypothetical restructure?
Posted on 12/10/23 at 3:06 pm to SlowFlowPro
Add draft capital.
Sacrifice a year or two of not giving a frick while we retool and restructure a bit of cap issues for our near future.
I want to eat shite for 2 years to give us a quicker rebuild

A restructure of his contract will not affect our draft capital.

So you think we can restructure his deal to alleviate our cap issues? How?

BOY, SFP will never learn to shut his fricking mouth. This re-read was fricking great with Latt's restructure news and Underhill now pointing this out.

Marshon Lattimore's option bonus does not kick in until one week before the start of the 2024 season.
That potentially opens the door for a trade. Here's how it works

Trade our 27 year old lockdown corner just so we can have a worse defense. He makes the difference between .500 and playoffs
Dumb idea

This all makes so much sense. Partly why Lattimore and Thomas aren’t back yet from their injuries is that they’re basically checked out and want to leave. Frankly, I dont blame them.
