Did you people not see how Bushrod got mercilessly abused this year?

Bushrod needs help at times, but he's a good value even with getting a new contract. The core is going to be getting a payday and we made the SuperBowl with Bushrod, so I think the team benefits more from the $3 - $5 million per year savings you get with Bushrod vs. Brown.

I think it was 7 sacks Bushrod gave up. I wouldn't characterize his performance for the year as "mercilessly abused" though. He had some bad outings but also some very good games in fact. Considering how he was thrust after never starting and coming from Towson it was even respectable IMO. I recognize the quality level of Brown. I think most are just scared to see a long term commitment made to a guy who looks like he could fall apart physically at anytime. Bushrod for his price is quite a deal.

With the RFA look a 1st for Brown could add some more youth and depth there. Even with his knees plenty of teams would go a 1st, maybe even the 1st & 3rd tender.

OSI benched because he was not producing and looking terrible against the run. Would rather Kampman from Green Bay

I could see Spiller, Best, or McCluster added in replacement
That would mean spending a #1 or a #2 to replace Bush. That doens't make sense to me when we have much bigger needs on defense. We need a WLB, a thug DT and a pass rushing DE. We also need more depth at SLB and MLB (I don't like Mithchell and Evans as our backups at those positions).

from the original post:

Leroy Hill or Aaron Curry (another WFer) could be attractive.

A 2nd escalating to a 1st+ with performance clauses.
------------
So with that scenario you would be getting a LB upgrade or a 1/2 rd pick.

Ya never know Carroll could still have him some Reggie love similar to Ditka with Rickey. Overpay and get rid of his bloated contract would be a dream scenario.

we have a Pro Bowl MLB-#61 Vilma. We need outside help. Pearce is over the hill.

Jammal Brown for Glenn Dorsey = win/win

-KC needs an upgrade at LT. Branden Albert is probably better suited at RT.

-Dorsey doesn't belong in a 3-4 system and will probably be a draft bust if he doesn't get moved.

-Saints fill a position of need with a veteran.

-Saints more free to draft best player available

Dorsey is in the Ellis mold IMO. A purer nose tackle needed for run D IMO. With the limitations I'm guessing Clancy will be back too unless he is completely used up.

I think Ellis could beef up quite a bit and fill that role. He already has the strength and 10 more pounds will make him the nose tackle you r talking about at around 320 lbs. Clancy was never anything special and is probably spent.

could be possible for Ellis I guess, he just seems much more of a penetrator than clogger in style. You find him making plays way out of the box in pursuit. It's a bad D and wrong scheme for Dorsey tho. I'd take KC #36 pick and a throw in player before Dorsey to get a better fit player and more bang for the buck ratio.

How is this? New Orleans plays from the 4-3 90% of the time and GW's primary goal is to go after the QB and cause mistakes. Dorsey did that in college from a 4-3 but couldn't as a 3-4 NT in the NFL and then moved to DE. Dorsey is probably begging to play in a D such as New Orleans.

Jammal Brown for a 1st or 2 2nds.

I'd guess market value as one low first at best, one second rounder more likely. 2 pro bowls, good mauler, just the health risk. Proven LT's are premium value

no, THAT is what I meant, bad fit in KC now.

Still think he is an Ellis clone in style (just less effective thus far). You are suggesting changing Ellis into something he isn't. Not saying that couldn't happen. But changing an already effective player to replace him with one that has been less effective in that role and hope the other player is effective in being a plugger doesn't seem too wise to me. Keep Ellis as he is and get a pick out of Brown that you can translate into a more specific need and also cheaper than another top 5 pick contract.
