If the Bears release him would we be able to sign him with all the rules of a uncapped year? He would be awesome next to Ellis.

Yes we could sign him, and should consider it.

i'm pretty sure we can sign anyone who is released/cut

I agree that Harris would be a good pick-up for the right price.

rotoworld had a good take:
Beat writer Neil Hayes ties the possibility of a Harris release to the Bears' potential signing of Julius Peppers or Aaron Kampman. We don't see it. Harris is easily the team's most disruptive player. The Bears may be trying to kick him in the pants, but we don't believe he's in serious danger of being cut.
also-
Bears DT Tommie Harris lost $1.5 million in a de-escalating roster bonus for the second straight year.
Harris must make the Pro Bowl and be on the field for 74 percent of defensive snaps to meet the requirements for the bonus. He participated in just 56.8 percent of snaps in 2009. The Bears are expected to pick up Harris' $2.5 million bonus in June.
----we should have had something like this for Grant though he prolly wouldn't have cared.

The Raiders are cutting Gerard Warren, who can still play, I think. Might be a decent NT in the rotation for a year or two.
The Bengals haven't tendered D'Qwell Jackson. I don't see him as a fit given his history and his position, but that could be interesting.

Oakland getting crazier by the day.
along with that Warren report (ho hum) was that Justin Fargas would be cut too. He can still bring something to the table in a Mike Bell type role IMO>

Harris ripped he knee out 2 years ago and has never fully recovered yet. I would say damaged goods.
