Mate, he was traded for a fourth round pick. If he’s WR3 (he is looking more like a 2 with Shough) that is good value

I still stand by what I said in the original Vele trade thread. For one round earlier we could have had a true number one receiver. Not a maybe #3. Everyone wants us to burn a first on a receiver now.

If he leaves b/c we couldn’t afford him, we get the third back in a comp pick. Or you franchise him for a year. Either way he helps develop our young qb.

Loomis essentially traded out Vele for Shaheed. They were traded for essentially the same trade compensation. So I guess it was a great move if you view them as equal players but the experts on here said Shaheed was getting 25 million this offseason. I doubt Vele would get a contract like that if he hit free agency this year.

That's why they traded him; they're not going to pay him.

Him getting traded has nothing to do with acquiring a large target, which is what the Saints were missing.

According to ChatGPT, the average 4th round pick has a 2.7 year career. I think vele is a safe bet to last that long

Why can't people here just admit when they were wrong? He's worked out; so far he's worth the pick they traded for him. That's what picks are for: turning draft picks into players who contribute. You guys who poo-pooed it just assumed since the Saints made a trade that it was automatically bad. You knew nothing about the player himself; probably barely knew his name before he was on the roster. Just say, "yeah, was wrong on that one. Moving on." Nope, can't do that. Not admitting you're wrong makes you Skip Bayless.

Thank you for the non-responsive post

The reasonable best case scenario involves Vele lasting 4+ years in the NFL

When they contribute is the issue

I streamed him a ton in fantasy last year my dude.

It's the same mentality with hating TS: too old, skiddish in pocket, injury prone, etc.

And the most ridiculous part of it is this is an anonymous board. Who TF cares?

Outside of an couple Ratler fan boys I'm not sure who "hated" Shough

A lot of the concern also was when Carr was still on the team and expected to be our quarterback for this year and likely next year. Basically Shough had to start this year and be good to make it worth it, and that ultimately did happen, but it seemed to be quite unlikely on the day of the draft. A lot of things had to align for that to happen.

No, there were plenty that were pissed that we spent a 2nd on TS.

Off-season that noise continued.

At the time of drafting him, I did not know much, but did a deep dive, which resulted in really liking the pick.

I can see that discussion in the pro scout room on Airline Dr.

"Hey, coach. We like this Vele guy in Denver. He fits a need for us and really feel he can contribute in our system. Sean has a gut at that position so we think we can get Denver to cough him up for a 4th. We thing he can bring equivalent value to us"

"But his fantasy numbers last year..."

"Oh never mind then. Shame on us for considering anything other than a player's fantasy numbers when evaluating him."

"Depends on one's definition of Is. The fog of history for the mostly uneducated blends what people see as facts. We all know the time frames of success and that was the justified concern. Some folks just want to see what they believe to be wrong you see."

I said you probably didn't know who he was. You said you did; you knew him through fantasy football which suggested that your dislike of him had a lot to do with his production in that medium. I then said what I said about using fantasy as a basis for evaluating a player.

Correct

I proved you wrong

What does my knowledge of Vele have to do with Airline Dr.'s knowledge of Vele?

No it's his age and the cost.

No you said things about Saints management.

Vele still doesn't have 300 yards for the season my dude.

And we aren't making the playoffs.

And he just turned 28

You were the one pushing to evaluate the move at the end of the year irrationally.

Or are you going to re-frame the analytical window again?

you are such a cuck. your bullshite arguing stances are not ever even worth taking seriously.
