If you want to know one of the ways to fix an NFL game, go check out the stat sheet. I have never seen an opponent of the Saints get 9 first downs by penalty.
To add insult to injury, the Saints had 0 first downs by penalty.

Most, if not all, automatic first downs. frick the refs

I think that's a new record for the Saints.
I think that the previous record was 8. At least that's what I thought I heard Chris Collingsworth say.

Refs = 9 first downs for falcons, -3 points for the Saints and penalty to finish off the game.

Clete Blakeman's crew is the worst.

Pretty much says it all right there, thanks OP.

This is why Payton is upset. It was a defining impactor for the game.
Matty had 3 interceptions. Drew had one. Interceptions happen and are part of the game but 9 first downs by penalty are unusual and in this case, purposeful.

Someone should have beat the frick out of Blakeman after the game. I am talking Punisher Netflix level brutality. POS a-hole. He should be sent to referee 7 on 7 games in West Texas as punishment.

Well, my very amateur view is simply this: If the refs give your team NINE first downs from penalties, there is no way that you can lose that game.
I would combine that with the fact that the Saints were going on the road to play on TNF with a team having significant injuries AND who lost its star rookie RB on the first series. That's a tough road to travel to a win.
The amazing thing is that had the Saints played mistake-free football, they would have won it.

I'd love to see a gif of that nearly dead old ref just stare at Payton for a few seconds and throw the flag to end the game. That old bastard single-handedly decided the outcome of the game with that unnecessary flag.

The NFL administrative offices dislike Sean Payton personally. IMHO, he will always be dealt with harshly by the NFL.

Its time for the Saints to target the Zebras and run a few of those SOBs down with a few helmet to heads hits thrown in

The best part is it would’ve been 10 had they not called an awful push off pass interference on Julio to offset another bad holding on the Saints. This crew

This is why I always find it funny when people act like Refs shouldnt matter to good teams. This is the NFL the talent difference between every team is miniscule (with the exception of maybe Cleveland) calls like the personal foul can absolutely have a major effect on the entire game.

Says everyone...
I can play that game too. Had Matt Ryan not thrown 2 picks at or end the end zone, we win that game by 10-17 points.
The only bad call was the roughing the passer that gave us a 1st down in the 1st qtr. y’all also benefited from a bad Off pass intereferance in the 3rd where Julio clearly just ran the route and didn’t even touch the db.
Bad calls happen.

You either are delusional or trolling. 9 first downs by penalty vs zero for the other team goes far beyond "bad calls happen". I don't ever remember seeing an NFL game with that circumstance. The roughing call you cite (7 points) and the FG alignment problem (always a warning first) involved a 10 point swing. I don't delve into the "mistake-free" aspect. I'm talking the officiating of the game.
