The Good and the Bad, and why everyone needs to chill out

We lost a very close game to the other best team in the NFC. Let that sink in for a moment. The world isn't ending, people, so can you please calm down and stop being Negatards? You haters are freaking insufferable.
The Bad:
- Payton playing cute: It was the correct call to go for two, since we were on the 1 yard line. The problem is that we ran a freaking sweep to gain 1 yard. Of all plays to run to gain 1 yard, this should be second to last in the playbook.
- Payton playing cute pt2: Now to the last play call in the playbook. Running a QB sweep from the shotgun to gain, yet again, 1 yard. This was a drive killer that changed the momentum of the game. I contend that if we convert this we win this game.
* I don't understand what Payton saw in film, but it was obvious he thought he could exploit SF's run game on the edge. The opposite was indeed true. Every time we ran a stretch play or toss sweep, SF was all over it. We continued to try though
- D has no answer for trick plays: this has been true all year, and it's an unfortunate side effect of an aggressive Defense. I'm ok with this for the most part, but it's inexcusable to allow as many trick plays to be successful in one game as were yesterday
- Kiko and Klein were severely missed: Robertson was terrible. He had one great play that I recall, but he was out of position numerous times and took some terrible angles. He needs to be benched. He's a detriment to this defense
- Kamara still looks injured: it's clear he came back too soon. That high ankle sprain has ruined his game, and he may need to be shelved to fully heal. HAS are no joke
The Good:
- OL is dominant: they owned this high powered SF DL. Easton is a clear upgrade over Peat, and we were able to run it down the throats of that 49r defense. This is also why the overuse of stretch and sweep plays is so mind boggling.
- TreQuan Smith looks good: He had his best game as a Saint. He made a tough catch, and that TD was a baller play. He looks healthy, and I hope this is the beginning of a strong #2 WR career for him.
- Thomas is the best WR in the game: nothing to add here
- Cook is legit: his preseason injury clearly effected his start of the season, but he has been a major player the last few weeks. If he doesn't get hurt yesterday, we win this game. SF had no answer to him, and we control the game more if he's there
- Harris will be a star: Seeing him be used effectively in the offense is a great sign. He will develop into a strong weapon

Nobody cares about the x’s and O’s. Obviously we can compete with anyone. we care that we lost home field and possibly a bye despite being the better team

Were we better? Looked pretty equal to me, if not us being a little worse. We lost to them at home, so how can we say we were better?
Plus we didn't lose home field YET. That's to be determined. It's perfectly fine to be upset at a loss, but the irrational hatred and sky is falling mentality is over the top

We were definitely better team should have won by 2 scores if Payton doesn’t get so cute and does a better job establishing the run.
Drew was as dialed in yesterday as he’s been all season.

Edit you post immediately. There is no way you can put a bad category and not have Marcus Williams in there. A safety that can't tackle or cover.....

On SF second to last drive we had them on 3rd and medium and Jimmy G scrambled, if Robertson takes a better angle and gets his head in front of him, they are punting from deep in their territory, but they don't and get the first and eventually the touchdown. I think Klein or Kiko makes that play.

I'm honestly encouraged by the offense.
I really did not think Brees still had it in him for a game like yesterday. Especially considering our (basically) #2 WR went out early in the 2nd.

Outstanding post.
The gameday melt is totally out of control....scoreboard page maybe.
Edit: some are still melting....its not the end of the world and nothing is determined. Get positive, lot more ball to play

Yes. Robertson had quite a few bad plays like that one, and he was clearly the worst player on the field. He wasn't even filling a spot; he was a true detriment.
I still have no idea why we had single coverage on Kittle with a rookie DB on 4th and 2. That was a terrible decision by Allen, and it's almost as bad as single high against the Texans on their final drive opening week.

Happy to see our O click. I agree Robertson is not starter material but I still like him as a backup.

Iirc the Saints rushed 4 and had a spy on QB, or maybe they rushed 5? No choice but single coverage. I’d rather PJ on a physical TE though as he covers decent in short and intermediate routes and is very physical. Well kinda physical

if so then this is dumber than I initially thought. He's not a running QB.
Their #1 weapon is Kittle. Let anyone else try to get that 1st down, but you don't let it be him. Why? Because he is going to be the first read. Take him out then you give your DL a half a second more to get to the QB and force him to make a play

Well we’d have to go back and look, I’m not 100% on that. To be fair, they only needed 2 yards. I understand them converting, he just should have been tackled right after the catch. CGJ, may be a rookie, but he’s still an NFL safety, has to tackle him or at least slow him up significantly.

Yesterday was hilarious, dudes were claiming we would be out of playoffs in first round. Said we suck, don't deserve playoffs, n blah blah. All because we lost to the other best team in the NFC. Remember folks, NFC is stacked this year, any given Sunday. We are talented and have more depth than most of them.

Took 3 people to tackle him after being carried 30 yards

I'm not worried about the defense b/c we were missing some very good, smart football players on the field yesterday
you can't fill 2 of your 3 starting LB spots with guys off the street and be successful
once our D gets healthy we'll be fine
I just hope the nicks that Davenport & Rankins picked up are minor and they'll be ok

Going for 2 in the first quarter is dumb. I stopped reading your post right there.
It makes no sense from a risk/ reward standpoint.
As a bonus it was a ridiculous play call as you stated.
Taking the 15 yard penalty on the kick off and trying some kind of gimmick kick, on sides or blooper, would have been a nice risk/reward proposition.

He had no choice really. Samuel, Sanders and Borne were killing us. CCJ was doing a good job on him for the most part.

To your point... the Rams, who I think we can all agree are a middle of the road team at best, waxed one of the best in the NFC last night and it wasn't close.
