The difference with Payton this year is he's having fun

For many season (especially following his suspension) he has been a cold, angry coach; and much of that impacted the way he called games and the mentality of his teams.

This year you can tell he's just having fun again. Sure he goes a little over the top with his emotions (choke sign to Freeman and skol chant in Minny), but he also owns up to those moments and his team loves him.

Now I'm seeing all these videos and pics on Twitter of him at the Pro Bowl. One where he is trolling the Panthers by getting in their team photo. Panthers fans on Twitter were so mad.

Also this morning there is a video of him hiding in a laundry bin and stealing an Adam Thielen jersey. Twitter folks are hating that they are laughing and starting to like him.

Anyway, it's good to have this Payton back, and I feel next year will be special if the injury gods will allow it.

As I was watching the Pro Bowl stuff I couldn't help but think "Damn this reminds me of 2009-2011 Sean Payton." Everyone forgets what a cocky sum bitch he was with his shotgun crutch

I think we're in for a pleasant ride next year injury God's willing.

He's having fun because they're winning. They're winning because they're playing better defense and running the ball (at least they were through the first 12 weeks).

If they were 7-9 he wouldn't be having fun.

I'll enjoy the season because I love football, but the window has closed on this franchise under Payton.

Cute that you're that obsessed to try and derail a thread and also a little sad. If I didn't have a life, I'd comb through people's post history as well.

I think it's also that he has a really young team this year, and he brings it up a lot. I think one of the players came out and pokes fun at them and calls them millennials all the time. But I think he realizes that the younger generation responds to a different style of coaching so he's kinda allowed himself to let loose a bit. I don't think you'll see the Sean Payton that was screaming at Rob Ryan all the time like he was Nick Saban or something again. He'll get heated at the officials and during moments like the Mike Evans cheapshot but I've noticed when it comes to his team and staff he can still coach and be critical while still remaining collected (like when Kamara fumbled one play and almost dropped the ball too early on a TD).

Coach P is coaching like the Saints are his kids. He acted like a football dad during the Thursday game in ATL .

And in reality, they kinda are his kids. His real playmakers are all under 25.

The entire fricking team was having fun this year. The videos from the Pro Bowl are hilarious. This team has some legit camaraderie and that's an intangible that I can bet you goes a long way in a 16 game NFL season grind.

This is one of my favorite Saints rosters ever.

Davis is not amused.

That dude looks like he has 0 fun playing in the league. He should fricking retire and spend the rest of his days in his rocking chair yelling at kids to get off his lawn.

This roster was missing the camaraderie that the 2009-2011 teams had.

They had fun and it was contagious on both sides

Jeff Ireland bringing in new talent and Payton finally firing Vitt and the cross fit mafia has had a tremendous impact on this team.

I just posted this in another thread:

This year was the first time he and the team looked like they were having fun since 2011.

2006-2011 Payton and the team were a solid unit. They always looked like they enjoyed what they were doing.

When Payton came back from Hitler's sanctions he just looked angry and brooding and the team seemed to just be going through the motions.

All the new Rookies and position coaches and lack of Joe Vitt seems to have really revitalizes this whole team.

Can't wait for next season. And this young user defense is awesome. I feel like they're a piece away from all time greats. If we had a pass rusher to compliment Jordan either an extremely athletic linebacker or another elite DE, they'd be monstrous.

In regards to the Carolina Group Photo

Sean was probably asking their punter

"I bet you are a smart guy...what is the Square root of 9?"

Punter emphatically replies "3"

Sean replies "and 0"

picture was taken as soon as the punter realized he was burned and Thomas Davis is still coping with the pain. Trai Turner thought it was funny.

I tend to agree with this.
He wouldn’t be acting like this if the team sucked.
